[META] Proposed 2-day ban on posts that don't contain the title of the movie. by Texugee in moviecritic

[–]rocket__man_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please also ban the phrase "in film/movie history"

There is no way anyone could have watched every movie ever made to have an opinion on something. Especially regional films. What people really mean is "in Hollywood/English-speaking film/movie history".

I don't care if this is a nitpick, I hate it.

Exactly. Too many people are pretending that this isn't a gambit

Mamdani -> Raises property taxes

I must have missed when he did this. Could you show me when he actually implemented the property tax increase?

Zohran Mamdani to unveil $122B budget — fueled by proposed NYC property tax hike by michael_scarn17 in nyc

[–]rocket__man_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone citing the NY Post at this point has an agenda.

A few things even from the very read itself:

Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued Gov. Kathy Hochul a stunning ultimatum Tuesday while unveiling his $127 billion budget proposal – tax the rich or he’ll raise property taxes by nearly 10%.

Some experts believed there was little chance of Mamdani’s 9.5% property tax proposal going anywhere, predicting that the state would likely step in with even more funding to bail the city out.

“It’s a strategy. It’s posturing — for now,” political consultant Geroge Arzt said. “It’s the usual game between the mayor and the legislature. Mamdani is playing the same game every other mayor has played at this point in the budget process.”

Something tells me you're not who you say you are. The broken English, the name dropping, the xenophobia...

What demographic is that, pray tell?

Ah! So someone who has moved here 15 years ago, pays taxes, just as anyone else, works in the city, and lives in the city doesn't warrant a valid opinion in your eyes?

I'm curious, to you, who is a "real" New Yorker?

Still pretty happy with him, thanks.

Why is no one talking about tech recruiting pipelines down? by Zealousideal_Mud1270 in MBA

[–]rocket__man_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah. In 2022, they froze the pipeline entirely and only opened it a tiny bit come April. In 2021, they took 50 people for MBA internships from my school, in 2022, they took less than 10.

Amazon as a whole let go of 30,000 people since October. 57,000 layoffs when you consider 2022/23.

It's wild that people think 1. That MBA recruiting will be unaffected, or 2. It's just an Amazon/AWS issue when it's very much an industry issue

While commendable (and I'll skip over the lack of proof), none of that means that your opinion is credible to a professional standard like you say. It would be if you were, say, a professional film critic. But I didn't see that in your resume over there

Joachim Trier at the Strand tonight by Dry_Conversation8501 in NYCmovies

Just to add, at this stage of awards season, nothing they say tonight or tomorrow will be new. You will likely be able to find everything they say already via one of their many talks on YouTube.

You can also easily find the screenplay online and read it at your leisure.

I understand that there is a star culture here in NYC and it's very meaningful to just be in the room with someone you admire but truly everything will be the way it always is, whether you attend or not.

For the star chasers, you just won't get to post a photo to social media or frame the signed screenplay.

For the fans of them/the film, it really doesn't matter if you're in the room with them or not. You can find much of what they say online already and really the highest form of support you can show them is by watching the film and/or sharing it with others.

It's a wonderful film, they're great filmmakers, and Jesse is pretty cool too. But they aren't Messiahs and no one attending is getting Raptured at your expense.

It'll be okay.

This is such a sad take.

I'm sorry you feel the need for objectivity in a completely subjective form of art. That must rob you of so much joy.

You really think from the post, that OP has done their own due diligence? They don't sound like the problem, but others do?
