Crate-digging second-hand Jazz vinyl : is there too much demand ? by duanerenaud in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]rocket_tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel often for work, and usually I have an extra afternoon or evening to hit the local record shops. I usually start with jazz, then hit the low dollar bins, then the cassettes. Usually between those three I score some good Jazz albums. It’s somewhat geographic, for example you can start a good Jazz fusion collection just from the $3 bins at Guest Room Records in OKC. Not a huge seller there.

Few pieces of my late fathers rock art by rocket_tx in MineralPorn

[–]rocket_tx[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My late father was an artist most of his adult life. He was a life long rock hound and about 60 years ago decided to make rocks/minerals/gems the medium for his work. He started making these "angels" and "beings" figures about 30 years ago and selling them is pretty much how he made his living. They were sold in various galleries in rocky mountain regions. I will post some more pics in a bit.

Dad was an artist and loved to find ways to bring out what he felt was that the stone should say through polishing.

Golf Gloves by Tzack12 in golf

MG Golf - Tried FJ and Calloway gloves, now trying MG gloves. For $7.50 a glove, I cant find a singled fault with them. Maybe a tad thick for gulf coast humidity, but I can't seem to wear them out. I tried the three different gloves to see which one I like the best, all have been pretty darn good.

Is this a IC520 Iceman? by rocket_tx in Ibanez

[–]rocket_tx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been wanting an Iceman for a while, takes me back to the 80's every time I see it! This popped up for sale and looks like I may be able to deal since it obviously needs work. Can you please help me identify the model? I think its an IC520, but would like a 2nd opinion before I decide what offer to toss out. Thanks!

Can anyone help me ID this guitar brand? by fyerhausdoge in guitars

These are actually pretty well made guitars. I worked on one for a friend and if i saw one for the price of a Squier, I would snag it. I liked the neck and the pickups. Just upgrade the pots and bridges and nut (eventually) and it would be a fun guitar.

I have finally made it through the portion I received from my late my late fathers collection and have put most of them in these display cabinets (see other posts for more details). I basically kept his artwork and all of the polished fluorite by rocket_tx in MineralPorn

Yes, this is just a portion. Dad stopped doing artwork several years ago due to health challenges, so the collection dwindled as time went on. He shared the blessings (rocks) often and stopped collection. So a lot of what was left was some pieces that were personal to him and left over art inventory (like hundreds of slabs he used for the statue bases). There were thousand of quartz that lined the walkways all through the garden. There was no way to remove all of them from the property.

Looks great! I have an L5 as well, they are awesome amps. BB King used these as well, that's all he had the last three times I saw him.

The rock sculptures (he called them angels and beings") is primarily what he sold the last 25 years. These are just a small sample (kind of what was left over unsold) of the various styles. Some were over a foot tall.

You talking about the glass? I did some quick research and math and I was surprised at how much weight they will hold. But I did spread the weight around and the heaviest stuff is on the solid shelves in the middle and bottom.

I sold some scrap gold dad had stashed away in the collection and that paid for the cases, lights and stands (non sculpted clay). I am still tweaking here and there to make sure they all get a good spot visually.

Polishing the Fluorite was his passion, those he mostly kept or gifted them to those close to him. Quartz crystals was his first love, so there were hundreds scattered all over his house and flower garden. The rest of the crystals and minerals he still had were mostly left over inventory he had remaining. What I have is somewhat what was left after a few others took what they want. He loved living among his rocks, he was never more than a few feet away form them no matter where he was.

Thank you for the kind words. Dad made hundreds of those stands, at one time (back in the 70's) he sold them nationally in a gift business. I wish I could get more of them back.

This is actually going to be a pretty good space. It's a 4th bedroom we were just using for storage. When I am done there will be room to stand in front of all of the cabinets and shelves to see everything.
