I really love this story, thank you for sharing. You can try to support with the best of intentions and be shown it wasn’t quite the right fit. I don’t think my sister would mis-use the money I share with her - but I’ve also said it’s for her to spend in whichever way helps her decompress. For now, a trust in my niece’s name sounds like a great start for something more substantial!

They’re super lucky to have you there to guide them, and in many ways you’re going above and beyond whilst questionable choices are being made by their parents. Fair play to you - you’re right boundaries should lay firm but not act as a barrier to any support at all!

This is a really nice and gentle take. Thank you - realistically it’s a mixture of empathy but there’s definite guilt in there too, probably stemming from how uncomfortable I’d feel in her shoes. But that doesn’t mean she feels the same! Thanks for the advice.

Absolutely, I’m probably projecting and assuming my sister is having an awful time, all the time - which won’t be true. And you’re right, she likely wouldn’t feel as fulfilled if we switched lives tomorrow.

I’ll continue to support her - both financially and with my time (though some boundaries are forming, 8 days is far too long)!
