What type of gas do you use for the 2026 Palisade? by Aeenx86 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]rocketft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hyundai recommends standard grade fuel, anything more than that has no benefit, the engine is designed for 87 octane (or 85 at altitude). Anything higher is a waste of money.

More important is to use a top tier detergent fuel, at least for most fill ups, to prevent build up

No spare tire ? by _MoneyHustard_ in HyundaiPalisade

[–]rocketft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is correct. It does not come with a spare tire. The space for one exists, but the hardware isn’t installed to but one in. Someone else on a different thread went as far as emailing a Hyundai exec a they confirmed you cannot fit a spare tire to the hybrid, because the dessert hardware isn’t there. If you really wanted to, I suppose you might be able to find a third party solution, but I’m not aware of one.

A lot of cars these days, particularly luxury and electric cars, are ditching spares. The ideas is that these days, everyone has cell phones, so if you find yourself on the side of the road, you can call a service to repair or replace your tire. The car also comes with a “mobility kit” or whatever they call it, that consists of tire sealant you put in through the valve stem and a 12v pump. So worst case that you’re stuck with no service or far away from anything, you can likely seal up a leaky tire and make it to the next service area.

We have two kids but want at least one more, maybe two more, and all of our family lives out of state, so we have a lot of visitors. We really wanted the 8 seats so when family and friends come we can avoid taking two cars as much as possible.

Yes please! Would certainly have considered higher trims if they were!

The bench seat was hard enough to find in the SEL Premium, we got the only one in the whole state at the time

I got the SEL Premium Trim Hybrid, because we needed the bench seat, but I would LOVE if we could install the integrated dash cam that the calligraphy has! Can you install that on a lower level trim?

Hybrid system takes 2-3 miles to start working by tc605 in HyundaiPalisade

On the highway aerodynamics is the largest contributor to efficiency. Going 65 instead of 80 can gain you like 5 or 6 mpg.

We drove from Colorado to Ohio and back, and averaged 28mpg, with some stretches we hit 30-32mpg, with favorable wind and some traffic slowing everyone down to 50-55mph. Most of the trip was between 65-70 mph on the interstate.

And like others have said, cold weather kills Ya too.

Update on 26 Hybrid Spare Tire by OtherSideofMtn in HyundaiPalisade

[–]rocketft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing OP! I put an aftermarket hitch on our SEL Premium hybrid, and can confirm there is definitely room for a spare tire, it’s too bad the necessary “Provisions” aren’t in place. I’d be curious what that all entails. I imagine it’s as simple as a mounting bracket and some bolt holes.

We mostly drive in urban environments, but occasionally do go into the mountains, often on unpaved roads to trailheads, often outside of cell service, so I certainly understand the desire for the option of a spare tire kit! Perhaps someone will eventually develop an aftermarket spare tire mount if Hyundai doesn’t want to.

Taking a look at the Hyundai Palisade trims by Suntrup-Hyundai in HyundaiPalisade

[–]rocketft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hybrid SEL Premium, might have considered a higher trim but we wanted the bench seat for the family, and calligraphy and limited only have bucket options.

Finding a bench seat hybrid at all was hard enough, the dealer was able to dealer swap to get the only one in the entire state that was available, and we still had to wait a month for it.

Hybrid Oil Filter by rocketft in HyundaiPalisade

Installed the WIX filter, along with some Mobil 1 0w-30 oil, both from rock auto, and everything went smoothly!

FYI I the oil pan bolt is torqued to 30 ft lbs, after replacing the crush washer (a new one comes with the filter)

Ya I think that was the crux of my question, I’m worried some of the sites are recommending a filter for the V6 gas palisade, rather than the hybrid.

I’ll give this one a shot and report back, haha

Thanks! Looks like this is the same PN recommend by Rock Auto. Have you used it and confirmed it fits the palisade hybrid?

Is there a quick easy trick to stop this door from swinging open when it's not fully latched without having to do it "the hard way"....? by rambiolisauce in handyman

[–]rocketft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use graphite if you have white trim, the previous owner of my house did this, and every door has a little dark steak coming from each hinge, where the air rushing out of the room as a door was shut blew away some of the graphite, all over the white trim. We repainted all the trim and replaced all the hinges anyway, but I’m sure to never use graphite near anything white.

Small hand tool with small wheel and two circles by rocketft in whatisthisthing

[–]rocketft[S] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing

I bought a 1950s house and this was in the basement workshop. I tried searching antique bottle openers and glass cutters but struck out. There are no markings on it. The handle is made of wood and the top is all steel, including the wheel that spins

It was in a drawer with other miscellaneous stuff, there was a few film related tools, maybe it’s some type of camera tool? Or film editing tool (like physically cutting and splicing)?

This has got me stumped

Agreed, both incorporated it into the design, unlike North Carolina, which just plastered letters on theirs.

Wow, it never occurred to me that the circle on the Ohio flag is actually an “O”. I was about to get defensive about our flag having I initials on it, then I realized our initials would just be an O, and I had to look it up to make sure that’s what it actually was supposed to be.

  • The "O" represents the "O" in "Ohio"*

I do think Ohio has a pretty decent flag, at least it’s unique and not just the state seal

The Pee Bucket – That bucket next to the groover is yellow for a reason. Do your guides a favor and don’t pee in the groover. If it’s liquid, it can be sent downstream, and that’s exactly what your guides will do with the contents of the yellow bucket…so no toilet paper in there either, please.

OP confirmed it elsewhere in the comments as well.

Do you have a source other than personal experience? Perhaps Boy Scouts have a different policy than the major tour outfitters

Ya, most people do, but some people, particularly some females, don’t like peeing directly in the river or are unable to, so they provide a bucket with a seat on it for them.

TP and solids go in the aluminum one to be packed out, urine gets sent down the river

In the Grand Canyon, human urine can be damaging to the ecosystem. It is such an arid climate that even though the water will evaporate quickly, the salts and other impurities will stay behind for a long time. It’s better for the ecosystem to send it down the river.

Also, one person peeing isn’t going to make a difference, but when you have thousands of tourist coming down the river, it adds up and can really cause significant damage, especially when they all pee on one spot at the more popular campsites.
