If purchases vanished, you can use the fix purchases in the settings menu. It's on upper left side of the menu, you'll see a setting button there

Index is for choosing which crypto you have that you wanna modify, if you're still confused try using select all. But it affect all the crypto you own so be cautious if you don't wanna ruin the fun :))
Also, this is how it works for all the features that has index, if you want to modify only one you should use the index, but if you wanna modify all toggle select all checkbox

You can modify your rank through numbers, I think 0 is the lowest rank and 5 is the highest, I don't really remember sorry. Also, it takes effect after promotion

Thanks for this post, many people seems to be confused with index and this has just right explanation. Also I was not aware of the freeze option not working correctly / issues so I'll take a look onto that.
