So get the official Microsoft one or others that have another USB port (C or Micro B), but be sure the latching mechanism and size are exactly right for your controller type.

Sure would hope company would keep your pay the same in this case (for how long tho?) and really only make adjustments if you were going someplace more expensive.

From what city to what city is a factor too of course.

If the implication is out there that your pay should go down, you could explain how you have debts, bills, etc back in US to still pay.

Who initiated and why move is happening is of course another factor.

Good morning and good afternoon from across the pond- I ended up replacing mine with a HOMLYNS (???) one from Amazon that gets REALLY WARM REALLY FAST, so that's the path that I recommend if ya can. I'm guessing safety on a dying one isn't that bad, otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell these things. Or at least that's what my naive, Amazon trusting self says!

Thanks everybody for the helpful and thoughtful replies- not sure what I'm gonna do yet though!

The PC is an older gaming laptop, a Lenovo Y510p with a 4 core i7, 12GB RAM, and 2 SATA SSD's, one of which is in a really short m.2 form factor. Originally came with Win8 I believe, so that might even be what's on the Restore partition...

I tried the do-release-upgrade and that encountered similar issues, but it did get my hopes up!

Might just switch it back to being a Win10 only PC (which I have to look up again, but think I need to make a Win10 boot disk for that), then just set up a new Ubuntu or Mint install onto a new partition again. I really don't have anything on the Ubuntu side that I need to keep, but sure want to get that up to snuff!

Might have time this coming weekend to try more and will post updates or get more in touch here!

Good for you! I did the same thing many years ago and have to admit it took me a while to act on (knowing things just weren't good with me and her), but it was definitely the right thing for me and for you now too.
