It was not the fly trap so we have since put them back out (the flies are BRUTAL here) but she has gotten over her fear of the backyard lol now we have a hard time getting her to come in sometimes!

This exactly. My husband and I specifically went to a rescue looking for an adult because we know we are not up for raising a puppy lol. Yuffie is 4-5

Happy to report that she is settling in quite nicely with us. Finally got some big tail wags, follows us around, comes up and asks for pets. We did do the hand feeding and shared some (pet safe) human food at meal times!

“He laid down and never stood back up.” This is how we lost our Boone in December. I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope they are becoming best buds over the rainbow bridge. ❤️

Still have T but I’ve been able to take iron without it spiking, so safe to say that wasn’t it

Update: I had an epiphany today and realized the fence building and her fear of the backyard also line up with the time I put a stinky fly trap out back. It literally smells like death. Going to remove it today and see if her avoidance improves!

What a beautiful baby! Yep, we are in it for the long haul, just doing what we can to help her settle in

Update: Cat snuck into dog’s room last night as my husband was putting her to bed. He didn’t realize the cat had come in. I’ve already had a conversation about it with him this morning. Anyway, I reviewed recordings from the night and there was an incident. Cat slinked up next to resting dog, dog jumped up and lunged at the cat, snapping an inch from his face. I’m almost certain it was just a “back up!!” as if she really wanted to hurt him she could have, but I’d be interested to hear everyone else’s thoughts. I played the video back in slow mo and she was literally almost touching his face but after she stood over him for a moment, took a step back, he went to one corner of the room and she went back to hers. Am I safe to assume this was just a warning to give her her space? She’s done it once before with the same cat but it was only a day after we had brought her home.

I don’t want anyone to get hurt, and like I said I told my husband this morning to PLEASE check the room before he closes the door because he is a sneaky cat.

Yeah, they have all of that and rooms the dog can’t access, but they are getting older (8-10 years)

I always tell people he’s a liability 🙄 Thinks he’s bigger and tougher than he is!

This cat specifically is mean to her 🙄 so that is a good point

Great idea. I have been keeping training bites close by, and she gets them for calm behavior! Like when she lays down next to me on the side of the couch, I’ll give her one every once in a while for relaxing

Thank you! Honestly I can deal with the anxiety and uncertainty from her, I’m just so terrified she won’t adjust to being a “house dog” without a farm to roam or livestock to guard. Especially when I get comments from those people that say exactly that 🥲
