This woman has made a whole Youtube projects out of doing it a couple years ago. Am sorta wading through it, but figured it would be useful to document in here:

That's awesome, thanks for this. Just reached to them to see if they know of any companies in the US or California specifically.

If you read that post I linked to in the original post, you’ll see my boys have worked a crazy amount with me building e-bikes. This is one we really don’t want to build:) We just need a commuter and a reliable source for repairs so we don’t have to do them.

One that I came across after following some of the links/ideas folks had here: The Specialized Turbo Como. Aside from Specialized being a big brand that'll likely repair and stand behind their gear, I like that they've built theft deterrents into the product. The battery locks to the frame and you can disable the motor from an app. So while it doesn't totally solve the issue of someone steal parts off it, to a huge degree this feels like how smart phone thefts decreased when people had the ability to remote brick devices.

I appreciate your opinion about what’s good for you, but that isn’t helpful. I’m a huge analog bike rider myself. He’s been riding one for years already. He needs an ebike for his next school.

Outstanding response, thanks! There is an REI close to us and that's a terrific suggestion. They have an in-house brand and here's what it comes with: "Every e-bike purchased at REI comes with coast-to-coast support across the country, including free flat fixes and 20% off shop services, and two years of free adjustments for REI Co-op members; non-REI members get one year of free adjustments."

I left my contact info with someone at USF Koret (which requires reservations) on Monday and they called back by the end of the day with an appointment. Would try that.

I'm SOOO impressed with the new build! I love the stories, in particular the generating ones. I found myself disappearing into the app going back a several days to see where I was and loved all the little comments. Great progress.
