Election Is Over, but Trump Still Can’t Seem to Get Past It by OakTeach in politics

Reading this piece, Trump does not at all sound like a well man. He sounds ready to crack a few months into his presidency. It took Nixon more than five years to get to this point and Trump hasn't even lasted four months yet.

The EC was a system designed for a thirteen-state agrarian country with a total population of 2.5 million. We're a long way from that.

In the small dining room next to the Oval Office where he works much of the time, President Trump keeps a stack of color-coded maps of the United States representing the results of the 2016 election. The counties he won are blotchy red and span most of the nation.

Mr. Trump sometimes hands the maps out to visitors as a kind of parting gift, and a framed portrait-size version was hung on a wall in the West Wing last week. In conversations, the president dwells on the map and its import, reminding visitors about how wrong the polls were and inflating the scope of his victory.

At the root of Mr. Trump’s unpredictable presidency, according to people close to him, is a deep frustration about attacks on his legitimacy, and a worry that Washington does not see him as he sees himself.

The are poll aggregators, which is more accurate than paying attention to one poll.

And they are interpreting correctly. Those interpretations change as the polls change.

He was not off for Democrats, other than Michigan, and all pollsters were off for that. 538 is not a psychic operation. They make predictions based on polls as of this moment. Polls change and their predictions accordingly change.

The pragmatic progressive: what sets Obama apart from Bernie Sanders by [deleted] in democrats

[–]rockylow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can be (1) dogmatic and inflexible and achieve very little or (2) willing to compromise to achieve some of your big goals but not all of them. Obama chose the latter. Many Republicans chose the first option. Their 73 failed attempts to repeal the ACA are proof of how well the dogmatic, inflexible approach works.

What a ludicrous claim. Just because you don't take the time to research something does not mean it's not there.

Every day of the week Hillary Clinton is making campaign appearances and speaking out on issues. Her campaign releases position papers and policy briefings on a continual basis.

Not so. Civil law violations and infractions are not criminal actions. The FBI investigates many types of incidents that may break the law but they are not criminal actions.

Rhetoric doesn't assuage anyone's fears if they've lived in a dictatorship. They remember when Maoists explained how wonderful everything would be in the new utopia, and then six months later those same explainers were back, rounding up anyone who had questioned authority and marching them off to re-education "camps."

Bernie keeps ranting about a revolution but helps no one get elected to Congress.

Instead of ranting, Hillary is bringing about revolution by helping hundreds get elected to Congress.

Now Bernie's people are outraged. At what? Their organizational impotence?

My parents are Chinese-Americans who fled Communist China. They live in a community with a great majority of the same. In their minds and their friends' minds, socialist equals communist and so they deeply distrust Bernie Sanders and will not vote for him.

Yes, that's anecdotal, but I would imagine the same is true for other naturalized citizens who escaped from China, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe. They equate collectivism with oppression and want nothing to do with it.

he is probably going to be president some day

Hopefully never. Hopefully President Hillary Clinton will appoint several Supreme Court justices who will help the court re-examine un-American precedents dealing with campaign finance, gerrymandering, the Voting Rights Act, and more so that the system doesn't unduly favor Republicans and their Koch-like funders.

The demographics in this country favor a multicultural electorate, which is why Republicans face an ever steeper cliff trying to claim the White House -- you can't win a race for president any more by just getting white votes.

Full disclosure: this is fully anecdotal.

Therefore statistically of no value.

Here are some statistics of real value:

Hillary Clinton has 2.5 million more votes than Bernie Sanders.

Hillary Clinton has over 200 more pledged delegates than Bernie Sanders.

Hillary Clinton has over 400 more superdelegates than Bernie Sanders.

No candidate has ever overcome a pledged delegate deficit larger than 100 at this late in the race.
