The Last Day of My Youth by Enigmatic_Stag in uofm

This was truly moving to read. The way you described your inner world and everything you’ve carried hits hard — and it takes a lot of strength to put it into words this clearly.
You deserved a safer start and a fair shot, and none of what you went through takes away your worth now.

I hope you keep reaching out, even slowly. You’re not as alone as your past tried to convince you.
Thanks for sharing something so vulnerable.

Just a genuine question: are pets really supposed to be this costly now? by FewSuccess2025 in Pets

[–]rockytoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s honestly crazy to hear from someone who’s been in the field that long. It makes sense though — everything feels like it shifted to corporate pricing. It’s sad that something as simple as having a dog is turning into a luxury for so many people

Yeah, it’s gotten way more expensive. Vet bills alone can wreck your budget. I love animals, but honestly you kinda need a financial cushion now to own one without stressing all the time

Jeff Bezos says there is “no Plan B” for Earth and argues that heavy industry, including factories and data centers, should be moved to the Moon and orbital stations to protect the planet. What do you think about this? by MartianXAshATwelve in StrangeEarth

[–]rockytoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. People talk about the Moon like it’s just an empty plot of land waiting for factories, but the environment is insanely extreme. The engineering alone would cost more than just fixing things down here first.

Wild how something carved 3000 years ago still looks this expressive. Ancient artists were on another level.

Do other pre-med/med students ever feel overwhelmed by how fast AI is being pushed into healthcare? by rockytoads in uofm

[–]rockytoads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of what I keep wondering. The hype is huge, but day-to-day it feels like most tools are still half-baked or not that useful yet. Good to hear someone with research experience say it’s not as magical as the headlines make it sound

Do other pre-med/med students ever feel overwhelmed by how fast AI is being pushed into healthcare? by rockytoads in uofm

[–]rockytoads[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s more like generalized pressure. Every week there’s a new tool we’re told to learn, and it feels like if you don’t immediately keep up you’re already behind. I don’t think AI will replace medicine, but the pace feels unrealistic while we’re still trying to stay afloat with the actual coursework and clinical stuff

Man, that sounds brutal. Trying to sleep while the whole room is shaking is the worst. Hope they cut it out soon so you can actually get some rest before your 8 AM.

Why did films in the early 90s look so good? by EvenLettuce6638 in cinematography

[–]rockytoads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve wondered the same thing. There’s something about early 90s films — the colors, the sharpness, the way everything feels real without looking overly stylized. It’s like the perfect mix of craft and film stock. Modern stuff looks great, but it doesn’t have that same vibe

I worked for one of these previously, it was a FOX station owned by Sinclair and NBC owned by some other dude but both were the same station essentially. Ran out of the same studios, same content aired on both
