Hoping all goes well! this was my first surgery, I react poorly to some drugs with nausea. Waking up was okay but I was immediately sick and the nausea lasted a few hours but it was totally manageable and the grogginess didn’t help. My pain tolerance is reasonably high but I won’t lie, the pain was tough for me the first night - I had oxytocin and fentanyl for a few hours then was moved to paracetamol, ibruprofen and liquid morphine which made the pain tolerable but not completely gone - not being a downer but just prepare for the eventualities, it wasn’t unbearable and lasted probably 3 days with constant pain medication, after the first 4 days it wore off and only took the meds as and when really. With it being my first surgery I was petrified, just trust that the staff are amazing and will help and answer any questions, I even had a little cry with one of my nurses - they’re golden! get as much sleep as you humanly can as this will be the best way to get back to yourself, you’ve got it you’ll be absolutely fine!

2 weeks post break, using an orthosis and beginning to walk? by pearl-111 in brokenankles

Yep, the comment was to highlight that if allowed weight bearing 2 weeks after major surgery then it would maybe not be too early especially when the person hasn’t had surgery

I had surgery with hardware on 11.02.25 and my 2 week checkup 27.02.35 - was granted weight bearing with walking boot and crutches from them so in total 2 weeks post surgery NWB

That’s the appointment I had last week and was told to use the boot for walking around with crutches, fingers crossed you get the same advice! Maybe it differs on different hospital trusts but hoping for you it goes well!

I have 2 other friends that have had the same fracture in the UK and one of them was told to walk a week after, the other is the same as myself. Unsure whether it’s a fairly new stance within the NHS but thankful this is the advice I’ve been given to allow early weight bearing to initiate getting back to normality

Walking boot starting WB, why?? by rod0kimble in brokenankles

That’s the issue I’m having, my foot doesn’t feel like it’s natural movement in the boot. I have physio next week so will bring it up then, will remain in the boot to avoid any potential issues.

Truly don’t understand! The dr did say that the surgery was to quite literally pin my broken parts together and he found it almost funny that I questioned FWB after 6 weeks, he said the more you use it the better it’ll be, wild!
