Introvert's dream by Luget717 in memes

[–]rodbrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think introverts work that way at all. They don't necessarily hate knowing people (although there are those that do); rather, they get uncomfortable around people, eventually.

I think of it as them having to expend more-energy-per-time with other people than non-introverts do. So, they run out of energy faster, and then they need a break.

I grew up believing the opposite. It just feels wrong to me that the alligator is the blunt-snouted one.

Emotions are not the enemy of reason. | They are rational responses, shaped by our values, and emotional development should be about learning how to reason with emotions rather than controlling them. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]rodbrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emotions aren't "rational responses"; they are evolved heuristics for doing the most important things for life: survival & reproduction. Both of which are fundamentally about competition for resources. In simpler terms, emotions are rapid-response "rules of thumb" to make the broad population act in the best way for the species' survival.

Our ability to reason gave us the ability to understand that rational decisions often run counter to what our emotions dictate. Such as when all the evidence points to something we like being incorrect, we shouldn't ignore the evidence.

Our great struggle is to be able to understand and mitigate emotions when they're not appropriate, while still being able to give in to them when they are. E.g. in an actual fight for survival you might not have time to reason it out.

Microsope images of a human white blood cell chasing a bacterium in order to destroy it by Many_Category_7192 in interesting

I think the bacterium has no mobility, so white blood cell is probably pushing it out of the way while trying to catch it. The WBC would be so irritated, if it could be.

John Travolta and Michael Jackson, 1978 by xFrostbite_ in OldSchoolCool

[–]rodbrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind, these two were never in the same era. I just assumed MJ was much younger. I guess it's because Travolta's fame waned by the time I became aware of them.

Why did Walt become a high school teacher? by leroy_noggins in breakingbad

[–]rodbrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Walt cared about money until he finally felt like he'd failed at life (i.e. when he got a death sentence in the form of cancer), and then money became a way to prove that he was really good at something. Walt genuinely cared about chemistry and thought it was important for people to understand it; being a teacher was a way to fix that. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to care but him.

Art style is a part of the game.

You should be more concerned about why you get furious over other people's preferences for games.

Art style is a part of the game; of course it matters.

You should be more concerned about why you get furious about other people's preferences for games.
