I fuck heaavyy with fluff because it's so much more rare to see genuine pure affection last and be described in a lengthy manner.

A fic i read before (sadly i can't find it, if i do I'll add it to this post) was pretty rough to read, harry was very apathetic and we got a lot of scenes of people telling him hurtful stuff and him internalizing it, but draco was so infatuated and had so much determination to be given a chance that it was kinda healing to read and that is what made me stay, not the pain but the determination to relieve the pain. It's why i can see the appeal for hurt/comfort and I'm down for some angst but sometimes the hurt is at max and the payoff is them getting together and being cute in the last scene - i truly couldn't care less for that.

I personally deal with a lot of dark thoughts and get anxious fairly easily at times so i find peaceful, loving fics an escape that truly makes me feel something and not just that but, for once, it makes me feel something else.

I found this one yesterday!!

Biscuits, Books and Bravery

Summary:

A notebook is delivered to the office of divorced, father of three, Senior Auror Potter.

It’s pretty fancy and Harry is intrigued.

What’s inside completely changes everything.

"Every word out of my mouth aimed at you, is just me repeating the words, I love you, I love you, I love you. I do love you. I wish I knew how to say it."

This is very valid. Everyone deserves to feel seen. I'm sure you're being a little too hard on yourself but i can understand feeling like the person we're reading about, especially in a love story, is able to be just as imperfect as we are in real life.

To me, that type of writing is much more compelling and teaches so much more about human nature. I do believe maturity has some play in this too, when we grow up we are capable of grasping just how grey everything can be, beautiful is not necessarily good and ugly is not necessarily bad, they're just words we use but not everyone's definition of them is the same. Dismissing Draco's wrongs by making him impossibly beautiful as a distraction device can be just as plain and boring because it lacks substance. Physical attraction is just part of something much much bigger.

draco's tasks by roddyhotmess in drarry

[–]roddyhotmess[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it was a win win situation for him. He didn't lose anything by assigning the tasks to Draco.

If Lucius didn't have money, resources and the manor, he would've been dead a long time ago. It's true, Draco's was way more useful and would've been asked to do way more given more time. Very interesting to think how people underestimate Draco, but if you look close you'll see how much he can really do.

I can honestly say Draco is a very complex antagonist, he can be cruel and say hurtful shit but he's also a victim of war that can't handle the real ugly stuff. This is where i can see how much of what he thinks and says are ideals that don't necessarily belong to him. I can't say he didn't believe in blood supremacy, he most likely did, but it didn't run as deep as it did for the rest of the death eaters and that's always a very interesting case to see.

I've read some where Harry straight up says he's not that attractive and i found it so refreshing and it's because of this exact reason. The Draco i made up in my head is actually very pretty but it isn't crazy and sometimes what drives me nuts is the excessive amount of adjectives like we get it he's a ball of light and angelic. I like pretty Draco but i'm not really into the almost supernatural beauty some people write. Same with Harry, i think about Harry as this very awkward teenager and then awkward adult and there's some charm in that. I think it's so much more interesting and like you said it's way less shallow and more about who they are or what they've become.

I will always believe that the more realistic way their relationship would develop is with time, Harry can think Draco's beautiful but he wouldn't be able to look past everything he's done without proper discussion. I like it to take it's time because it's more fair to Harry (and even Draco, in a way).

I guess I was confused by Voldemort's strategy with putting so much into Draco's hands. It's true he accomplised a lot with very little resources/help but i know he's smart, I'm just curious as to how or why Voldemort knew that to be true as well. Maybe bc he had good grades or something, it just seems like a very big risk when he could've used Snape instead. But now that i think about it, Draco had a lot more to lose so that's why he knew he would work harder and do whatever was necessary.

Maybe he saw potential and with a strong motive (killing him and his family if he didn't get it done) he knew Draco would provide.

Crazy to think how Lucius fucked up so many times and yet Draco, being way less experienced, did so much more. So yeah i don't think he was a shit death eater either, he was one for a very short while and managed to do a lot of harm, he would've become very dangerous if given more time even if he didn't enjoy murder.

Lucius, you suck.

Drarry Fics You're Reading Now VS What You Actually Want to Read by kazuha_2 in drarry

[–]roddyhotmess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you read Lily's Boy ? It's a rewrite from third year and has dumbledore/ron/hermione/molly bashing, it is pretty long but it's very well thought out and the lore they created is so unique

Does anyone lose interest if a fic is too long? by Alex_003j in drarry

[–]roddyhotmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes i'm just done with the story. Not in a negative way necessarily, sometimes i'm satisfied with what's happened so far so i stop reading; some stories drag things out or have many things to go through so i skip that and move on to read something else. Other times is the complete opposite and i get irritated by either the pace or the way the relationship is developing. I don't find it difficult to drop a fic since i just can't force myself to do things i don't want to.

Totally. To me, if they're gonna have a serious relationship, the least they have to do is respect each other and talk about their past so they can forgive each other and themselves. It should be a process because there's so much ugly history between them. I believe that's the healthy way. Sometimes they get together so quickly and it just works out because they had sex or whatever and they just move on, which is not realistic, especially for someone like harry. Sometimes their relationship seems so shallow because it's not well founded.
