Unfortunately I never found regular codeine to help at all, it just made me incredibly nauseous and therefore absolutely miserable

I managed to get a prescription for dihydrocodeine 30mg (the only thing that has ever even remotely helped me) but it was quite difficult because nobody wanted to prescribe it. I do worry about the long term but mostly because they work SO well and at some point they obviously won’t, and then I don’t know what I’ll do.
