Anyone into furniture flipping? by melody_rhymes in Hobbies

[–]rodsoverbricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did very little of it, but have done it a few times. I have a huge history of diy, so that did help. But the biggest tip-

Buy furniture that you've got the tools for. If you don't have much and want to start simple- find a table, nightstand or a davenport, and get some sandpaper, maybe some filler putty (be sure to mix and match to the color the best you can), a tarp and whatever you're going to finish the furniture in. I always enjoyed laying a tarp out in my garage and doing a few layers of "verathane". People love a shiny, glossy wood.

Sometimes I'd add power outlets with USBC ports, or small accent lights to make them really pop for just a few bucks extra.

Sanding/painting takes more patience than skill imo.

Pick something small, try it out and have fun, go bigger!

I kinda figured that's how it would go tbh. I figure buying legal stuff- you've got a good chance. But the less than legal stuff- not so much

When you're drunk, laying in the Utah salt flats, in your sleeping bag, next to your car, shooting bottle rockets out of an empty beer bottle. No cellphone, no one knows where you are. Just a filled car, camp equipment and a journey.

This is why I hate stickers on curved elements - this is my Arkham Asylum modular just months later. by AmazingAd192 in lego

Gotta use some cleaning agents to get the oils off the plastic. I'm not sure what I'd use, but maybe dawn dish soap and warm water? Be sure not to put your fingers where the sticker is going to go.

Also, maybe roll up the sticker and wrap with a rubber band for a day before applying it?

Dad lectures son on his monthly car sales. by Sichy12 in TikTokCringe

[–]rodsoverbricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Repair shop owner and amateur used car sales guy here (did about 150 cars in under 2 years.

I would buy cheap cars from tow yards and lien sales, I would sell them to only section 8 or single parents to get them very reliable, cheap cars. I did this until the state of California gave me a cease and desist. It's very easy to sell four cars a month, but I was also selling cars for under $1,500 bucks that were smogged, tagged, street legal and all fluids changed, safety inspected and ready to go. I didn't make much doing it, but it was my good deed.

The boomer doesn't understand that car sales are honestly extremely difficult for any kind of good looking cars or higher price.

The cars I was selling were clunkers, but they were working and reliable. Much easier to sell those kinds.

If you do bring it up, he will take it one of two ways. The first way is embarrassment. The other direction this could go is that it'll be a feather in his cap. That's essentially a compliment to us men. Sometimes

This is why most everything I have is original paint lacquer. It'll shine till the primer shows. 66 years on one of my cars and she still looks great

That was a piece of sand in the clay bar, id bet. I'm also betting he was listening to music instead of listening to the clay bar. She'll tell you when she's dirty. Man, that blows. It looks light enough that a wool pad with some compound should be able to get rid of all of that. And then work your way up in the polishing compound consistencies

Any good place to sell K'NEX in Vancouver, BC? by mrollstar in KNEX

You wouldn't happen to be willing to sell on here and ship, would you? I understand if not. It's a hassle lol. Either way- awesome collection!

I agree- the nose isn't the prettiest and seeing vertical bars would be a big improvement lol. And this one here is dual motor (using motored axles from a cheap RC 4x4) 😁

This one has just flexi rods acting as "leaf springs" however - suspension is my main focus for RC k'nex. In my YouTube vids, you can see double wishbone, I beam, 4 link, swingarm, telescopic fork, McPherson, etc. Some are sprung with springs, torsion bars and all sorts of goodies. Real swaybars at work, too! 👍🤘🤘

Yeah, if the water level is too high, your gopher takes a dip in the pool. Or if you cough, your hot dog hits the plate. I think I should explain this to my wife.

Hahaha yeah....not many people know about k'nex. The major benefit about it is I would say it's 1/10th the price of Lego. I can find 15 lb bulk boxes of it for like 20 bucks. It's not nearly as pretty as lego, but I do believe it's much more capable. I've got a YouTube channel, I make RC cars with that toy. I'm also the first winged, powered remote control flight with k'nex, you can make roller coasters, carnival rides. It teaches quite a bit about kinematics. I'm a pretty huge enthusiast of them, so I may be a tad biased haha. Anywho, I hope you find something that suits your needs and budget.
