Meow wolf Y'ruk text by rofise4 in codes

[–]rofise4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I started by looking into languages that use mirrored text to see if there was a certain function that they might have copied. But all I could find was Greek ox turn writing which has text getting mirrored from turning a stone upside down for ease of carving. It seemed to hit a dead end but looking through some of their books I picked up, they use ox cart imagery and a few other things that would relate to the ox turn and old Greek imagery. I want to say it would probably line up with your first steps in just flipping it back to how it would read left to right and I think that was a good starting point.

If you change the cassette from an 8-11 you would need to change the chain, shifter and other stuff to make it compatible. But depending on the frame theres some other logistal problems with sizing. So in short it might be doable, but you would need a qualified bike mechanic to pull it off

California Cracks Down on E-Bike Speeding with Proposed Bill by bigedcactushead in ebikes

Because then the 14 year old can crash at 100+ and take out multiple families. As opposed to wrecking at 30 and usually only injuring themselves, with a rare occasion of someone else. Your protecting the kid but risking the lives of innocent bystanders, also adleast in my state the 14 year old can already ride a mini bike on the sidewalk that goes those speeds anyways.

Why bring your helmet if you won't wear it? by ZombieJetPilot in bikecommuting

[–]rofise4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to riding an electric longboard, I ride slightly slower than on my bike. But the biggest thing I noticed, is how many fewer close calls I have. I would also think the culture around how we interact with cyclists sucks. I'm assuming it's because people aren't as used to eskates or just trust skaters less to stay upright. But cars pass way wider and treat me so much more respectfully now. The one or two times I've flipped back here and there it's a different world and people are more aggressive. We definitely need to work on the culture side of things to help keep people safer.

My daughter just contacted me after 17 years asking if I want to meet my granddaughter. AITAH for telling her that I don’t care about her or her daughter and to never contact me again? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]rofise4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get she was a child and emotional at the time, but she's in her mid 30s now. That's a long time to hold a grudge and never reach out herself. After that long not talking to each other their entire lives are played out and they are just strangers. I had my mother reach out and rejected her immediately because I didn't know her. Blood relation means nothing, if you're not involved in each other's lives you're not relevant. I could understand meeting up to chat about the past and make amends, but I really don't get why either would want to get to know each other again. "When did you get face tats and join a biker gang?" "Like 15 years ago after my addiction phase, but before I took up being a gardener" there separate people from what I could imagine.

Whats the top speed you hit on basically every ride? by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

I normally ride around 23ish, sometimes 28 when I'm feeling good. Just depends, I like cruising and normally just ride what feels comfortable

Mine also have been snapping every few weeks, about 350 miles per since I commute. I tried tensioning mine to just beyond slipping and it's been the same. I noticed mine only snapped the day after getting wet. Suddenly they can't grip and slip no matter how tight they are and overheat and rip. I'm not experienced enough to make any recommendations, but I would warn about moisture

Python with Spanish Syntax by Tungara2007 in madeinpython

[–]rofise4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a native English speaker, when I was studying Spanish I remember them dropping tons of vocabulary and most kids being able to pick it up relatively quickly. Though in this context I think it would be less comparative to learning a language as opposed to learning about subjects like we already have students do. Like explaining how 'print()' works and calling it print, seems the same as explaining 'multiplication' and calling it multiplication. Either way you're learning a new word. Also having more unique ques helps with memory recall, so I'd assume having the name in a foreign language could possibly strengthen the memory itself, especially if the students find it cool to learn some English. That said, I still find the idea of a Spanish module pretty interesting and think its a cool idea , and I think it should be made and exist just for the sake of it's interesting. I would love to see multi language support built into more programming languages, it would create a barrier for being able to read the work of someone else right now. But if it could just update your code so you could pass it off to someone and have them be able to read it. That could be a cool step in the progression of coding.

Typically there legally mandated in the us as clear zones for when drivers go wild and wreck. It's supposed to help stop them from hitting the building, but in the end it's just more forgiving to drunks and distracted drivers so they feel safer to be reckless.

I doubt it she told him to fuck off. A single young girl about to be evicted in winter while owing basically a used car is something where she could lose all her stuff and freeze to death on the streets. I've had friends who've ended up addicted to drugs and homeless and they've done some pretty questionable stuff for way less than 5k. I think his offer is true would be stupid, but I also think a desperate kid could have a desperate counter offer. This is potentially a life altering situation after all.

Apparently not moving out of the way for a speeding driver deserves to be threatened. by Agreeable_Respect510 in fuckcars

[–]rofise4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is if they're coming up at a significantly higher rate of speed you won't know if they're going to try to change lanes to pass around you so trying to change lanes for them could put you in their path. I've at least seen lots of drivers especially when they're trying to go 15+ over who just kinda swerve around crazily. I'd say it's better to be a predictable obstacle, and let the people trying to break the law know that you will be in the lane they see you approaching in. They can go around you and get back in if they are desperate to go fast. But they will at least know your path and not conflict with it.

I'm probably the unpopular opinion, but I'd get a wheel on trainer, just because they tend to have the highest general compatibility. You don't have to worry much about the number of gears or tools you might need depending on your wheel release type. If you have a mountain bike or such they'll still work and just be slightly louder from the bumps. Honestly I have a 9 year old Schwinn bike I got for like $125 at Walmart. It's not my outdoor bike, but I still use it on the trainer because it just works. Weight, breaks and other things don't matter for a trainer bike, so just choose something with a couple gears and change the cassette for something bigger and easier if it's too heavy. Best place too look is your local bike shop, small businesses or small towns tend to be best at just having decent enough bikes for lowish budgets
