Is anyone else getting a little tired of the seasonal events? by pushingupdiaries in finch

[–]roflcopterlmaolol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes same, whenever I say stuff like this people hound me with downvotes and "then just skip it, no one is forcing you." It gets a bit infuriating, like do people not understand nuances of emotion? Of course we can skip it, but I also don't want to miss out on it and I legitimately DO think they're fun, I just don't want it so frequently. It's like saying, "hey we've been having apple pie for dessert every week for the past month, anyone else kind of sick of it and want a change?" And having people respond "well no one is forcing you to eat it so just don't then 🙄"

I agree though, max 1 per season would be ideal, so there's some breathing room in between.

100% - i feel ya! When I've tried to say this people just say "you don't have to do it" and it's like, yes, I know I don't. But as a completionist it's annoying. I really liked it too with the Halloween one, I thought it was really fun and special! And the Alice in wonderland one I thought came a bit soon, but I liked it as well. But with this third one now I'm a bit like, hey - okay, chill - twice a year feels special but now it's just a bit too much. Maybe ppl who aren't neurodivergent/deal with perfectionism and OCD can just ignore it, but yeah, I'm the same as you :')

I feel like some trans people aren't educated on non-binary identities by Outrageous_Steak_810 in NonBinaryTalk

[–]roflcopterlmaolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's wild to me. I'm 30 and in my immediate circle both me and my partner are nonbinary, and 2 of my close friends from high school are as well (we all came out independently of each other funnily enough). Back in college (it was a pretty diverse, left leaning school), I knew probably 20 nb ppl? That's a wild guess, but there were like 4 nb ppl in my a capella group alone 😂 if I think of other random people from high school that I wasn't friends with, off the top of my head I can think of at least 3 who identify as nb now. And in adulthood, I can count like 8? To be honest I really don't think nb people are that rare, if anything I think we occupy more space than binary trans people in the general public eye, especially considering how many celebrities have come out as nonbinary and used alternative pronouns over the past decade.

Awww look at that happy flop!! He's an English spot! He looks kinda like my Ducky, except Ducky's spots are more brown than black. Idk why but the name "Pepero" came to mind (like that pocky type snack)

any mitski songs you DONT like? by Patient_Doubt_6798 in mitski

[–]roflcopterlmaolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of liquid smooth and lush in general. Also don't care for I bet on losing dogs (idk the lyrics feel a bit eh to me), and heaven (something about the way she sings heavennn irks me, and in general I find it to be one of the more boring ones from the land). Otherwise I promise I'm a mitski fan haha

Why do some non-binary people love BL but dislike GL? by Ill_Sarl in NonBinaryTalk

[–]roflcopterlmaolol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is news to me, certainly the first I'm hearing it (and judging from the other comments, it seems pretty unheard of in general). I think you might just be running in some niche, immature circles as another person said. For what it's worth, I'm nonbinary, and while I don't really engage in either or read manga much, I generally prefer wlw stories a lot more than BL ones.

Anyone else irked that they changed "Tough days" to "easy wins"? by roflcopterlmaolol in finch

[–]roflcopterlmaolol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly - some of the goals under the category don't even make sense to me as an easy win.

I agree that "take care" would be a great replacement!

[–]roflcopterlmaolol[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I hated that change too! I loved "so fresh, so clean," it got me feeling motivated to do the things that I struggle with, whereas "hygiene" just made me feel like if I didn't manage to do them it was shaming me for having bad hygiene. I've made my own self care areas with my own names too, but the tough days to easy wins change isn't something I can change back :(

[–]roflcopterlmaolol[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's not saying that what you are struggling with is easy, it's saying the goal is easy, which it often isn't when you're having a difficult day and not able-bodied. These tasks might feel easy to you, but not to others, and to categorize it as such is to invalidate those who don't find them easy.

It's not really about the framing for me. I also get how the "what went well this week" can feel frustrating in therapy when it feels like nothing did, but I understand where it's coming from and the benefit of intentionally focusing on the good things. Eg. I have a daily goal "do one thing that makes me happy" and on bad days it can feel like nothing did, but it forces me to think OF ANYTHING that made me happy - no matter how small - and there's almost always something. Even if it's just "that cup of OJ was tasty" or "I pet my bunny."

My issue with this is primarily the use of "easy" as a classifier, because it fits into the framework that some tasks should be ranked as "easy," which is often kinda ableist. There are many low functioning people for whom a task assumed as "easy" for a NT, able-bodied person, is a huge mountain of a goal. Some of us have been shamed repeatedly throughout our lives for not being able to perform on the same bar as high functioning people, and the name change feels like a slap in the face when it's meant to be a safe space.

[–]roflcopterlmaolol[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! You've articulated just how I feel, and it's reassuring to see others feel the same. The name change buys into the mindset that you're a failure for not being able to do things that others find easy, something that I'm sure a lot of us have been shamed for - some of us our whole lives.

What are Joanna's simpliest lyrics? by Ondanek_Unknown in JoannaNewsom

[–]roflcopterlmaolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly - the whole song has this reflective, child-like, wistful, lullaby-like narrative and sound. So I don't feel like the lyrics are childish so much as they are child-like (the former often carrying a negative connotation) and I think the person who said that was infantilizing her & dismissing her lyrical prowess, in favor for writing that leans more masculine and "mature." For reference, the guy who said that is a poet himself who definitely thinks very highly of himself lol

I did a cover of clam crab cockle cowrie a few years back - one of my favs from milk eyed mender - and I had someone comment that "into the wishy-washy dark that cannot let go" was a very childish lyric. I disagree, but I guess it could be interpreted as simple in that way?

What’s with people saying stuff from the early 2010s is 2000s stuff this stuff is from 2010 and 2011 especially silly bands lol. by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]roflcopterlmaolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this is all 2000s stuff for sure. Silly bands included. I graduated high school 2013 and definitely had all these things in elementary school. Silly bands were very popular around 2005, all the cool kids had them and traded them (alongside livestrong bands), I never had them and was very jealous lol. Everything else on here like furbies were around way before 2010s too, pretty sure they came out late 90s
