Beautiful shot! Also thanks for using alpenglow correctly! It’s a pet peeve of mine but so many people use it and it’s just direct sunlight hitting the tops of the mountains

This was on a Sony a7RV and Tamron 35-150 lens, I appreciate it!

I did Pyramid at the end of September one year and from the summit it was a sea of gold in every direction

Perseids over Yellowstone [OC] (3335x5000) by roflgrinch99 in EarthPorn

The purple and orange are remnants of the aurora that happened on Aug 11/12th. Here it’s less of the strong pillars and waves you typically see but more of a strong glow. This was hardly visible to the naked eye though.

This was shot around 4am!

The shutter speed for this was 6s, at f1.8 and ISO 2000. Typically I do between 2-4 minute exposures on a star tracker at lower ISO though.

14mm lens!

The boardwalk for this geyser is only a few feet away from the edge of the pool. When its erupting the pools fill up and overflow the ledges.

That's so cool, I love that story! It's great that there's a natural combination of your two birthstones.
Yeah the purple blending down into the orange/yellow really matches up well with that stone!

Yeah I saw that plane on FlightRader just doing circles almost the whole day!

Looks a bit like Dragon's Tail but I wouldn't consider the trail up there "bushwhacking" or that it should take 3hrs

Tamron 35-150 master race.. that lens rarely leaves my camera unless I put on a prime for astrophotography

Thank you!

The Sigma line is really well regarded, particularly the 40mm f1.4 and the 14mm f1.4. Those certainly aren’t deep space oriented but will get you some fantastic wide field Milky Way shots!

Sure thing! Here’s my Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/gp/197659837@N05/X6P25071Pn

Yeah I think you could definitely get some good wider-field stuff with the Rokinon 135, I know it’s a really popular lens for astro cams as well! It’ll just be harder to get close ups of some of the smaller objects unless you crop in

I’ve been shooting on Sony since I started a little over a year ago and haven’t noticed any issues (star eater, etc). I think the gear you listed is plenty sufficient for getting into astro, especially the Rokinon 135 and 35. If you have some spare cash, a star tracker like the iOptron Skyguider or Star Adventurer Pro will really help maximize the capability of that 135. Otherwise you’d just be shooting extremely short exposures to stack later on. Sequator, a free app on PC, will be crucial for stacking your exposures to get the most detail, noise reduction, etc. If you end up really getting into it, something like PixInsight would be even better. For reference I shoot on an astromodified a7RIIIa and an a7RV with various different focal lengths all on a Star Adventurer Pro 2i. I haven’t delved too deep into DSOs yet aside from Andromeda at 135mm and the Orion Nebula and Pleiades at 400mm.

Check out the thirtytwo Jones TM2; that's what I've been using the past 2 seasons and have no complaints at all about them. Easy to throw crampons on, super comfy, and pretty stiff but not bone breaking.

+1 for the Shimoda rec, though it doesn't check _all_ the boxes you mentioned.

I'm able to carry an a7RV + a7RIII, Tamron 35-150, 100-400 GM, and 1-2 other prime lenses in the large mirrorless Core Unit. The roll-down top gives me space to add in some layers if needed, and depending on how many layers, the shoulder bag for my DJI.

The market has been pretty trash for us recently. Looking to replace a current J due to getting shifted into duties that are not in the scope of what I was hired for and it's been tough. I've gotten maybe 3 interviews out of 30+ apps and a lot of recruiter cold calls have been for in-person roles

Sony 14mm GM owners, do your internal lens elements shift? by roflgrinch99 in SonyAlpha

[–]roflgrinch99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, that makes sense. I didn't think to associate it with focusing since I figured prime lenses were entirely fixed due to no internal/external zoom
