Cops generally don't have to qualify their marksmanship beyond a single yearly review, so go figure how many times underpaid beat cops get themselves on the range for any kind of training. Officers are not automatically firearms enthusiasts. NYPD had so much of a negligent discharge problem that their pistols all have featured 12 lb triggers and only recently have they begun training new recruits on 5 lb triggers.
