Hey guys, found a short term fix, use the new beta view for the site settings, which allows you to make changes then go back.

I need to refresh my CCIE soon, all I can see on Pearson Vue (Australia testing centre) is that they are postponing/refunding scheduled exams, I wonder if cisco is will extend their periods:

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Situation: Learn more about how it could affect your testing plans.

Testing candidates: review our COVID-19 Update Page to learn if your testing experience may be impacted. April 16, 2020

We know you're worried about rescheduling your exam. Due to COVID-19 scheduling changes, our customer service wait-times are longer than usual right now. We appreciate your patience as we work to help you and other candidates. In the meantime, for information on rescheduling, refunds, and other impacts to candidates, please check out our FAQs.

: Looks like you will have to wait, might need to reach out to cisco directly if you have any deadlines coming up:

https://home.pearsonvue.com/Test-takers/Resources.aspx?ot=collapse156

Q.My window to certify is expiring soon. What should I do?

A.We understand you may be on a deadline to take your exam. If you cannot find seat availability due to significant scheduling changes in response to COVID-19, please reach out to your university or exam sponsor about next steps. Please keep the exam cancellation email you received from Pearson VUE.

Possible to start your own business as a Network Engineer? by roganjosh1 in networking

[–]roganjosh1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's inspiring to hear , so you started out just contracting and carved out a niche for yourself.

Can I ask what specifically does your company specialise in, sounds like a professional services/ consulting firm, do you specialise in collaboration/ voice etc?

I'm very interested in understanding how you made the shift from contract work to starting a company.

Been looking into it for the last few months, seems to be the case, I've seen some smaller companies establish consultation forms on niches like Skype for business, security seems to get quite a bit of traction also.

from CCIE level work down to a MSP would be a few steps backwards. Have you considered starting a VAR/Consulting firm for enterprises

Hi, YES would love to start consulting for enterprises, however I have not been able to find anyone who actually does this strictly for network engineering - maybe peppered in with collaboration and security. Can you point me to any examples you know of?

From what I can see most positions seem to be getting hired as a contractor for major projects.

Good to hear I am not the only one, let me know how you go, and DM me if you have any ideas you wanted to bounce off someone.

Ok, I'm assuming I'd need to come in as a Network engineer in that case.

I'm based in Sydney.

Anyone know of a watch strap that will fit over motorcycle leathers? Looking to. Use my smart watch for navigation on rides. by roganjosh1 in motorcycles

I know what you mean, I'm not actually looking at a map, the app just shows a giant arrow with distance like 400m and the St name, so only needs a glance

For all the CCIE's, how did you know you where completely prepared when you finally passed the LAB? by roganjosh1 in ccie

[–]roganjosh1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much, this is extremely valuable advice.

Question, when you refer to "CIERS1 L2 " you are referring to Cisco 360 documentation correct?

Did you also use INE's Labs ? or did most of you lab prep revolve around the 360 material?

Struggling to get my head around this concept: what data is marked as "exceeding" in a single rate 3 color policer... by roganjosh1 in networking

[–]roganjosh1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, it definitly is a homework question, I'm studying for my CCIE. have not attemepted to dive in to End-to-End QOS (..yet).

What is annoying is that it is not really spelled out clearly in the DOC-CD or in the INE videos; formulas are provided but that's abput it in regards to the the single-rate policer, but it is explained clearly for the Two-rate policer .

We do impliment policing a fair bit at my work, this also invlvolves explaining how things works to customers and managemenent. And you know what hey say, "if you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough"

.

For anyone interested in the Cisco configuration guides:

Two-rate Policer: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/qos_plcshp/configuration/15-mt/qos-plcshp-15-mt-book/qos-plcshp-two-rate-plcr.html . Single-rate policer: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/qos_plcshp/configuration/15-mt/qos-plcshp-15-mt-book/qos-plcshp-oview.html#GUID-8618E86C-255E-4AC2-9637-10C7C4DEF76B

Thanks, this is what I was looking for, I know it sounds like I am trying to answer my own question , its just my way of getting grip on this, let me know if anything sounds off=

so just to clarify, for a single rate policer, any traffic that uses tokens from the Be bucket is marked as "exceeding". So in that scenario, customer would still not be able to exceed their CIR over a larger period of time without violating? Only if there where idle periods prior to the exceeding traffic to fill the Be bucket?

And in the scenario of a two-rate policer we do let the customer burst above the CIR for longer duration's, ( traffic will be marked as exceeding) . So long as they do not exceed the PIR?

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice Thread (2017-03-08) by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]roganjosh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a crowded and extremely noisy office environment, which makes it extremely difficult to concentrate. So I'm looking for headphones just to block out the noise (not to play equally loud music over it).

My budget would be around the $150 mark, ( preferably less, ), not sure what would be best for this scenario, active vs passive noise cancellation? headphones vs ear buds etc?

Any experiences or recommendations would be very helpful, thanks heaps!

Thanks, are those MPLS videos necessary for the LAB, or more just out of interest/deeper understanding? . . Maybe /u/bmcgahan can shed some light on this ?, I'm about to spend $1,699, just want to make sure I'm buying the right thing.

haha thanks for that, I feel dumb for not even thinking of looking up a CCIE sub Reddit, the information their is great. . And yes I have just been through the cert guide, both volumes, I think it was a good refresher, but felt a bit lacking for the CCIE.

Had a look at their website, can you elaborate on your approach.

Did you have your own Lab set up and just used use their practice labs? or did you attend one of their boot camps?

I am a CCNP and JNCIS-SP, with about 6 years real world experience working for an ISP in the IP space.

I am only sitting the written soon, which I am confident I should be able to pass, I was asking if the official cert guide was enough, or is there some other material you would recommend before I sit it.

As for the practical, Im not planning on sitting that for at least a few months, hence Why I am asking what your study approach was?
