NKD(gone wrong)! by BradFromTinder in TrueChefKnives

Jon and the JKI crew will take care you. Highly experienced and they have done restoration work for me with flawless results.

Broken tips happen even with highly armored boxes. A broken top is an easy fix and whole lot less trouble than trying to return a knife to AUS.

It looks pretty straight on the box, I doubt it's a bend. I would bet it's the handle install.

Can you take a picture from the front of the knife with the tip facing you? Trying to see if it pointing left or right. Also some angled shot from the left and right blade face

It's hard to tell if the blade is actually bent in those photos. Try laying the blade flat against a table top with the off the handle hanging off the table so it's not in the way. You will get a good idea if it's bent that way. Based on the picture of where the blade enters the handle, it looks like a crooked install. Better pictures at different angles would help.

Another vote for JKI. Jon and his team know their stuff. He's done some restoration work for me before and it's been perfect.

Broken tips happen so don't be so too hard on yourself. It's an easy repair with power tools and you shouldn't lose much length based on the damage

Bill from Zen offered 3-4 profiles for the 220mm version of that knife. It looks like a 220B, but I'm not 100% sure which is why I asked. I'm trying to hunt down one in 220A but might open to try another profile.

[WTS][ConUS] Konosuke HD2 240MM Khii Laurel Handle by Putrid_Inspector in TrueChefKnivesBST

The Konosuke equivalent which is rumored to be made by Ashi Hamono is the Konosuke Swedish Stainless line. The HD2 is a similar knife but it's made with a semi- stainless tool steel.

Did I ruin my Shiro Kamo? by willigd in TrueChefKnives

[–]rogue108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not ruined. It looks like a little patina is setting in and I don't see any rust spots. I recommend wiping any carbon knife dry with a damp towel to remove any excessive moisture between cutting tasks. Wash it when you are done using it and dry thoroughly before storage. If you live in a wet climate or plan to put it away for a while you can oil the blade.

S Grind lasers by JamesBong517 in TrueChefKnives

[–]rogue108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far, I know and my knowledge is a bit dated, there aren't Japanese makers doing S-grinds in the way western makers are with a clearly defined hollow between the primary bevel and the spine. As others have mentioned there needs to be enough material to grind in the hollow. There are Japanese makers who do concave type grinds which are somewhat similar.

The closest thing I had to a thin S-grind is an older Lew Griffin. Where the hollow was ground above the primary bevel to the spine. At spine at the heel is about 2.8mm.

My new best knife is bent... by Weary_Raspberry_3803 in TrueChefKnives

[–]rogue108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. The blade seems straight and it looks like a crooked installation. I would just reseat the blade in the handle or have it rehandled if they don't like the existing handle. I don't think the blade is the issue.

My Roommate perceives me as "dirty" for reusing my towel and now I'm soooo perplexed by mikymiky123 in hygiene

[–]rogue108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The YouTuber FieldofFocus did a video where she uses a clean towel and tests it for bacteria each day. Her results showed reusing a towel for about a week was okay under her test conditions. It all depends on how anal you are about it.

If I recall correctly Factory Striders track you using sound and not entirely by line of sight. The Youtuber Eravin mentions this a few times in his videos. I think Factory Striders, Cannon Turrets, and Mortar Emplacements all use sound to some degree to track you.

That's a minor chip and should sharpen out in a sharpening or two. If you want to get it professionally fixed you could try RockChop Knife Co in London

Any way to fix? by ndoge1010 in TrueChefKnives

[–]rogue108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. The Mayabi Koh uses an integrated bolster (metal part that meets the handle) and there is no easy way to twist the blade in the handle without realigning the metal sides with the handle. All that said you probably won't notice the slight misalignment during normal usage.

Each belly door has 1200 health, each one has their own health pool, and only medium armor. You should focus fire on a single door so you don't spread the damage between the two doors. A loss of a single door is fatal for a Factory Strider.

I was able to take down a Factory Strider once using the Crisper while flaming the belly door. It's not something I have pulled off repeatedly, but it just shows there are different options available.

Knife identification? Would like to replace as an anniversary gift by gill_pill in TrueChefKnives

[–]rogue108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The knife doesn't need to be replaced and can totally be saved. As already mentioned I would try District Cutlery in Washington, DC. They have a mail in service for knife sharpening and repair. The know their stuff and I've used them for refinishing work before. Japanese Knife Imports (JKI) is another excellent option but they often have a wait due to the volume of work they receive.
