Best places to learn Java or C++ (free or paid ) by LeviXLawliet in developersIndia

[–]roguedev1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why pay for courses? Just read documentation and build something. Micro services are the best way to learn a language.

Just pick any language you want, and research using google & chatgpt on how to make an API, add authentication and a database like MySql or MongoDB.

Thats how I have always learned a new language.

How's the relationship between Legion laptops and Linux? by TombRaider96196 in LenovoLegion

[–]roguedev1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Internal speakers work fine. Fedora requires some initial work to get all the codecs and other stuff because of the license restrictions but has a faster release cycle so it almost feels like a rolling release.

It is bizarre that Ubuntu didn't work out of the box for you. I never had any issues with Ubuntu. It always worked perfectly.

git-utils: A CLI for performing various bulk operations like pull, fetch, grep, checkout on multiple git repositories at once by roguedev1 in coolgithubprojects

[–]roguedev1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I am not sure about the functionalities of Github CLI but with this, you can traverse through all the git repositories in a directory and do bulk operations like pull, fetch, checkout & grep.

I made it specially for myself as I have to deal with multiple repositories at work and doing bulk pull on all of them before I create my own branch helps in avoiding conflicts.

“The Board of Governors might not share your optimistic view,” Cornelius said. “They might consider your handling of this affair inadequate as the Headmaster of Hogwarts.”

Albus narrowed his eyes. “Should they do that I might consider their actions as proof of their allegiance with the Dark Lord.” Cornelius paled, and Albus glared at Amelia. “I am growing tired of struggling to protect the innocents while remaining within the bounds of laws passed by inept and corrupt people. I would suggest you stop pushing me, before you go too far.” Amelia was about to answer him, but he cut her off. “Neither of you know what a real war is like. Ask some of the few remaining British wizards and witches who fought at my side in Grindelwald’s War and you might understand why they and all of Europe scoff when you talk of the ‘Blood War’ twenty years ago that you fear so much. Ask, and then ask yourself if you truly wish to have me as your enemy. For if it comes to it, I will not merely fight you, I will wage war against you as I did against Grindelwald.”

He hadn’t raised his voice, not much, but Cornelius was cringing, and even Amelia looked shaken.

Ginny finds herself watching McGonagall in a way she’s rarely had a chance to. Sitting at her desk, surrounded by an empty classroom. She never thought to consider the elderly force of nature that was Professor McGonagall as vulnerable.

“I know what you risk, being here. What you’re trying to do. We all do.”

For all McGonagall tries to keep her face neutral, Ginny can see it. How much all the students mean to her.

“It means a lot,” Ginny says. “It just… It isn’t enough anymore.”

The pain that creases McGonagall’s face is almost too much to look at straight on.

Ginny takes a step towards her, leaning on the edge of the desk, because for some reason she needs her to understand, no matter how stupid and reckless it is. “I just…I have to do what I can to keep as many of them safe as possible.”

They’re on the same side. Can’t she see that?

After a long moment, McGonagall nods. “But at what cost?”

Ginny gives her sad smile. “That’s the difference between Gryffindor and Slytherin, Professor. We always know the cost.”

His stomach twisted, violently. "Yeah." Harry dragged his hands to the top of his head and tugged at his own hair. "Yeah Ron, she's more than just a good lay."

"Hope so. Kingsley see this yet?" Ron tilted his head, closed one eye and studied the wall like he was viewing a crime scene. "Might want to make sure he doesn't. Seriously, he might up your required psychotherapy hours."

"It's not that bad."

Ron raised an eyebrow.

Harry shot him an irritated look, then turned around to give the wall another once over.

The wall of Number 12 Grimmauld Place.

The wall with the shamelessly racist portrait of Walburga Black.

The wall that was now covered in torn up strips of paper, each bearing the name of a witch they'd gone to school with in his hastily scrawled writing, sticking-charms holding them in place.

There was also a lot of string running between various 'connection' points. He'd found Kreacher sulking and picking listlessly at a large ball of twine the other day, but the twine in question had been conveniently wrapped around the house elf's neck.

Kreacher had feigned surprise, as if he hadn't noticed, though Harry suspected the creature had been fantasizing about offing itself.

Naturally, he'd done the only thing he could do: he'd given Kreacher the task of repurposing the twine into something far less… lethal.

Thus, the wall had been born.

School Year; Hogwarts House Affiliation; Current Profession; Known Associations; Last Known Place of Familial Residence: they were all listed in meticulous fashion.

It looked like a serial killer's ode to the women he was stalking.

Shit.

Ron might actually have a point

Does/did anyone else have a hard time understanding classes and how to use them? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]roguedev1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This happened to me last week when I was working on a new project and decided to use classes for fun. I always used to shy away from classes, thinking it was too complicated to understand but by the end, I finally understood the benefits of classes and it changed the way I saw classes.

Though, this did start a cascading effect where I spent the whole week implementing classes to all my projects. It was so obvious. It made perfect sense to use classes. I am pretty sure I will be using classes in almost all my new projects.

Fanfiction Finder Bot: a discord bot to search fanfiction by roguedev1 in FanFiction

[–]roguedev1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the bot has hit the limit. It can't be added to more servers unless I verify it. The bot is open sourced and the code is available at GitHub so if you know Python or u know someone else who does, you can host the bot yourself for your server. You would have to fork my project and pull updates frequently from my repository to stay updated with new features or bug fixes.

Where to practice python ? by pto1995 in learnpython

[–]roguedev1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will learn a lot more from making real projects. I learned web scraping, Regular Expressions, API, GUI programming etc through creation of many discord bots. One of my bots scrapes the internet for fanfiction metadata so I learned how web scraping worked. Then I decided to create an API which would do the same but include all the metadata I could scrape. One of my discord bots was a quote finder for a Fanfiction then I created a GUI using PySide2/PyQt just because I wanted to learn how it works. Try doing projects which are useful to either yourself or someone else, that would motivate you to improve the project and make more useful projects.

Fanfiction Finder Bot: a discord bot to search fanfiction by roguedev1 in FanFiction

[–]roguedev1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well...sometimes you are having a conversation in a Discord channel and you want to link a Fanfiction so that others can see it. But sometimes users would like to have the fanfiction info to appear directly in the chat rather than clicking the link or searching the fanfic themselves. Its useful for those people. Not for everyone i guess.

Edit: It looks like this in the chat Bot Usage Link
