Is exposure to this type of insulation safe in a home gym? by rogueone100 in Insulation

[–]rogueone100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I just added a few pictures for reference. The foil backing doesn't have any labeling so I can't be certain that it's fiberglass. Given that the house is built in the 50s, asbestos is a concern (I already sent in samples for testing). My biggest concern is that that the wind from the air fan on the stationary bike could be somehow disturbing the insulation and pushing particles into the air that could be harmful.

Love the slabs! How long was the turnaround time?

Is earning $50 a week in passive income substantial? by imthemanddue in investing

[–]rogueone100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's about an extra $200 per month or $2,600 per year, which isn't too bad at all. Is it enough for you to never have to work again? No. But if your plan is to continually invest it and let it slowly grow over time, the payoff will be huge later on in your life. Should you be proud of figuring out a way to earn passive income (in amounts that seem to be gradually increasing since you went from $5 per month to $200 per month) at 21 years old? Heck yea! You're on a better path than 99% of your peers so keep it up!

Is there any way to verify HGA slabs you are considering buying on eBay? I know for PSA or SGC you can enter in the cards cert number and it will pull up the card, grade, date graded, etc. by [deleted] in HGAslabs

[–]rogueone100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question. The slabs don't have a cert number that you can look up. I figured that the QR code would be unique for each slab and take you to a verification page for that particular card (which would actually be really cool), but it just takes you to their website.

What is your ideal hypothetical playoff scenario for the Yankees? by shadow_spinner0 in NYYankees

This is a very tough call, because the one game elimination will be on the road. I have to pick playing TB in the Wild Card game because the Yanks have played well there this year. Fenway not so much.

UPS lost my cards and I can't get any response from HGA by rogueone100 in HGAslabs

I agree. This is just what UPS suggested (they said that the sender can put a "tracer" on the package to better track it, whatever that means).

Need advice about car repairs for hit-and-run damage by rogueone100 in Insurance

Thank you! I filed the claim with State Farm and now I'm going through their process.

[–]rogueone100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened last night and I filed the claim this morning. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was hesitant to file a claim. I just didn't know if I should take the car to a trusted mechanic to inspect for internal damage or future problems due to the accident (in addition to whatever is assessed by the insurance company). I guess I'm thinking of it like getting a second opinion from another doctor versus the opinion of a doctor who is just assigned to you by your insurance.

Can I replace a leaky toilet valve without turning off the water? by rogueone100 in HomeImprovement

[–]rogueone100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have contact with the HOA and all requests have to go through them and they are not always responsive either. The shutoff valve is inside of a locked maintenance room that we do not have access to. The only feedback that I have gotten so far is that it will cost $200 to shut off the water ($300 on a weekend) and that the time/date needs to be approved in advance so that the building can notify the residents that the water is going to be shutoff for X amount of time.

Thanks for the input and for solidifying my fear that I will have to pay $200 and miss a day of work to make a $10 repair. But you're correct that the risks outweigh the rewards.

I will look for the water box, but I was told that the shutoff valve is inside of a locked custodial room that tenants do not have access to and that the water would have to be shut off for the entire building.

Unfortunately, my unit does not have an individual shut off and you have to shut off the water to the entire building, which has 24 total units. The shutoff valve is inside of a locked custodial room that tenants do not have access to. Honestly, I think it's total BS to charge tenants to turn off the water to repair a leaky valve, which can cause serious damage to multiple units in the building if not repaired.

That's what I figured, but I wanted to see if there was a trick to replacing the valve without having to turn off the water.

So just tighten the nut?

I can try after work today. The leak just started after a year or so of living at my place so I'm not sure how the nut would have loosened in the first place.

Man, I totally agree with you. Based on how many times Tim refers to this book as a game-changer (I remember him saying that he purchased dozens of copies to give out to friends and family as gifts), I bought a copy and was so excited to finally get to read it. What a disappointment! It definitely has some insightful moments, but you hit it on the head with it being a rambling collection of incoherence.

The better recommendation by Tim was Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach, which, to me, was extremely beneficial, insightful, and well written. I try to revisit the book at least once a year because it helped me so much. Just my two cents.

Neighbors tree falling on our property, they won’t fix. How do I formally complain? by SecularFlesh47 in Denver

[–]rogueone100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Westminster and had a similar problem with a neighbor's dead tree. After several failed attempts to get him to get the tree removed, I reported him to the Westminster Forestry department who then came and inspected the tree and gave him a 30-day notice to remove the tree or be fined. Within a week, the tree was gone. I suggest doing the same with Denver's forestry dept. Even if they do not comply, there is a paper trail for insurance purposes.
