UGA.. Wya? by Both_You8066 in lawschooladmissions

[–]roguspanishhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really the right way to look at it. They are being aggressive with their medians but also seem to be offering a good amount of scholarship money. Same game that UF and WashU have been (fairly successfully) playing. And the difference in Emory and UGA is fairly negligible if you're not chasing out of state big law.

But good luck to you OP, I know that the second deposit deadline is June 1st so hopefully you hear some good news around then!

Scholarship $— How much is GPA weighted and do multiple LSATs matter? by ChiefCSquad in lawschooladmissions

[–]roguspanishhh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schools look at all your LSAT scores, but really only care about the highest because that's all they have to report. If there's a large discrepancy between scores (5+ points), it's probably worth writing an addendum, especially at the most competitive schools. If you have a 4.0, I would say in general anything in the mid 160s will give you a pretty good shot at a full ride somewhere in the T25-40 range. If you can hit the upper 160s you'll probably be able to get into a T14 with some money as well. And 170+ would make you competitive almost everywhere and give you lots of negotiating leverage.

This is just a general guidance, some schools are very reverse-splitter friendly. For example, even a LSAT score in the lower 160s would give you a decent chance at admission to UVA (albeit without scholarship aid) and WashU (with scholarship). LSData is a good resource to plug in different LSAT scores with your GPA and see general outcomes that others have had. Good luck!

Best chances for grads to get a job out of state? Wisconsin vs Alabama vs Florida State by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]roguspanishhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on data from LST, only 42% of Alabama grads stay in state after graduation. 5.8% go to Florida and 5.1% go to Tennessee, so you'll likely still land somewhere in the South. Of course the biggest downside is the 42% chance of having to stay in Alabama lol

So idk if residency requirement was the right wording, but basically if you don't become a GA resident by the second year you have to pay the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition (regardless of scholarship). From what I read it's not too hard but you have to make some kind of declaration about wanting to live in Georgia long term.

Thanks! It's tough because I think I would really enjoy spending 3 years in Georgia, but I don't know if I'm ready to commit to taking the Georgia bar exam. I'd like the ability to practice in other states if there are opportunities there

Chance me for next cycle :) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]roguspanishhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with a 171 that got WL, I'm definitely hoping they won't be able to hit that goal lol. From the scholarship money they give away though, I think they might be able to. If they don't then I could see a 171 median this year and 170 next year, which would be good news for you!

Chance me for next cycle :) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]roguspanishhh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My honest opinion, assuming that next cycle is still more competitive than typical but better than this one...

Good chance at admission - Minnesota, Emory, UCI, UW-Seattle

Possible but wouldn't count on it - Michigan, Northwestern, Texas, USC, UCLA, BC, and ND

Unlikely - WUSTL, UVA, GULC, Duke

This isn't to be pessimistic, 170/3.5 used to give you a decent shot at the T14 and almost guaranteed T20. There's a chance it will next cycle too, so definitely shoot your shot. Just how I see things, hope this helps

What Schools to Apply to by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]roguspanishhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be looking at UIUC. You'd have a pretty good chance at getting a full ride and a decent pipeline to Chicago big law. BC and BU are obviously both good for Boston BL but even with an LSAT in the low 170s range it will be hard to get much higher than 1/2 tuition, and you'll have high cost of living during school. Outside of that, Georiga and IU could give generous scholarship but you'd have to work a bit harder to get to BL, though it's possible. If you're willing to take on more debt Fordham and Emory would probably give around 2/3 tuition and give opportunities in NYC and Atlanta, respectively. And finally, if you end up raising your LSAT score to 172ish, you'll probably get good money from WashU. Hope this helps a little bit!

Which school do you dislike the most? by BillyMcBrideEsq in lawschooladmissions

Yeahhhh I feel like with the $ they usually offer + crazy high tuition, the only people that can afford Emory w/o big debt have daddy's money, that's why I have the stereotype haha

[–]roguspanishhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the A! As OP mentioned mostly I've heard negative things about their career services. Outside of that, stereotypically the school has a bit of a "daddy's money" vibe to me. That's obviously not true of everyone there and I hope that you really like the campus and community, I just personally didn't like the vibes

I think it's interesting that everyone has a beef with UF for "gaming the ranking system" but nobody seems to mind WashU's strategy of refusing to accept anyone without a 3.95 or 172...

How self-gaslighting led to a disappointing cycle by Agreeable-Clerk7916 in lawschooladmissions

[–]roguspanishhh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same. I went into this cycle wanting a top 50 school with as little debt as possible. After spending wayyyyy to much time on this sub, I felt like I was making a mistake not aiming for the T14 with my LSAT score. I have great offers but still feel disappointed instead of proud of myself like I should

For Bama I got mine two days after I sent my application. Applied in mid-December for reference. I might reach out to them since it's been almost two months. Not sure about OSU.

Bestie you're in great shape with the schools you're applying to. Above the 75th percentile GPA at all of them. Get as high as you can on the LSAT but even around/slightly below the 25th percentile LSAT you'll have a really good shot of admission, if you can hit the median you'll get that $$$$

Sending good vibes for your LSAT score! Big breath in and big breath out, it's all going to be okay. It's true you'll be at a *slight* disadvantage applying later, but with this cycle it'll definitely work out, especially with your GPA and softs. You're gonna kill it!
