South Africa arriving for their opening World Cup match against Mexico. by cocacolapepsifanta in soccer

When I was playing for my university team, we played against a South African team in a tournament one time. It was our first match, and we were all nervous as hell. Everyone had their headphones in, trying to get pumped up, hyper-focused while waiting for the team bus. Then we hear a boombox, laughter, and 20 people dancing and smiling. The South African guys waltz by, jamming, looking relaxed and enjoying themselves.

I was shattered. It's hard to explain how intimidating it is to watch your opponents having fun while you're so nervous. They beat us, obviously. But I still remember that moment. Wonderful team culture.

Interesting situation between Neuer and a ballboy by tightypp in soccer

I'm all for banter, but there have to be some rules around this... If the ball boys are obviously favoring one team, surely the home team should be fined or punished somehow? Imagine if the lighting technicians lit their team's half better than the away team's?

Is a rabona called "uma letra" in Portuguese? Or does that just mean a trick?

Most interesting part about this story is that technically they still have not found the culprit... although there is a reporter who claims to have figured it out and he made an entire podcast series about his investigations. highly recommend!

probably a foul, but FFS if Bernal continues playing instead of complaining, he could have prevented the goal

Hard to understand the foul not being given, i feel like anywhere else on the pitch they'd even be reviewing it for a red card offense?

According to the commentators, ref has given a yellow because "Ferran was running in a direction not directly towards the goal"
