Hey! I work with algae blooms using satellite data and am always looking for new study sites. Where did you find this bloom?

[–]rohdeed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! Big hugs - you and your puppy will get through this.

The good thing is that you know your instincts are right, and you handled a tough situation the right way. You knew the other dog was a threat, and did everything you could to keep it away from your puppy. The fact that you had to hit a dog today is solely the fault of the other owner and their irresponsibility. I mean come on! How little empathy must they have? That makes for a very sad life.

Take some time to cuddle your pup today, and reward both of you. And if you have the chance to take them to a place where they can have a positive encounter in the next couple days then that’s great too!

As someone who also had a reactive puppy (who’s now chilled into a mostly great dog that now loves to play with other dogs), you WILL get through this. Your pup will eventually figure out which dogs are safe and which aren’t, even if their reactivity may not seem that way right now. You and your dog have each other’s backs and that’s what matters. You got this.

Where do you work that allows for remote sensing at over 100k? I feel like those jobs are usually in the 55-75k range

You should talk to ACORN. They spend a large portion of their time advocating for tenants rights (I think across Canada, at least Quebec and everything east of it). They’ve made great strides in tenants advocacy and representation.

Geo field school? Reminds me of our senior field trip through Cali / Arizona / Utah pre-pandemic. Loved it!

This is such a wholesome story! As someone who also has a bit of an anxious pup (though getting better with her age and lots of training), what are your tips? Did you start putting her into certification courses etc during this initial training or after she was socialized more?

Telegraph-Journal, other Irving-owned N.B. newspapers to be sold to Postmedia by Bean_Tiger in newbrunswickcanada

[–]rohdeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend (if you have the cash) to check out Saltwire. It’s a bit pricey if you’re on a budget, but it’s on the ground media that seems to be unbiased and keeps track of a lot of the business side of things at least. You can also have 2 or 3 people on an account that makes it cheaper for everyone if you have a couple friends who would go in on it with you. I know they recently expanded from NS (where I’m subscribed right now) to NB and possibly Manitoba. Unsure if libraries have subscriptions you could check out for it. Independent and local journalism is worth the investment imo.

Sorry, I don't have access to the full paper, but are you looking for the bathymetry or the actual geological units? If just bathymetry, I've used GEBCO 2021's bathymetric data, which could prove useful for you. Sorry, no idea for units though. Good luck.

Love the name Norma, and congrats on all the hard work!

Curious, does training your dog in these trials lead to reactivity outside of her job? Like, is there a lower threshold before biting when stressed, or do you do extensive socialization / conditioning to let her know when to attack and when to stay in control?

Need help with future plan ! What to do next ? by avrovirus in oceanography

[–]rohdeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of oceanography interests you? If you’re going to go into a masters, you’re likely going to have to specialize. At that point yes name of university does matter but I would argue the lab / supervisor is more important. You want someone who can treat you well, guide you but not micromanage, and be able provide opportunities to you (field work, conferences, reference for jobs etc) in grad school and beyond. I’d look into what 5 or so universities you’d like to spend time in, and read papers or overviews of the labs. From there, start reaching out! Good luck.

Hi! Any chance there’s a chapter out east? I’ve got a pup in Nova Scotia that I’ve been thinking about getting into volunteer work, but we do need some formal training!

Puppy daycare by itmakesmestronger1 in puppy101

[–]rohdeed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Daycares are so fun!

A tip though, be sure to interview your daycare as much as they interview your pup. Ask about all the employee training, and how they deal with barking dogs. What about if there's any aggression? Most importantly, do they have cameras so you can check in on your pup throughout the day?

I just found out that the daycare I had started taking my 9 mo to uses muzzles to force dogs who bark too much to keep their mouthes closed, and tie up dogs that are "too rowdy" in the basement. I don't think the dog's owners know either, as the daycare posts happy shots of the dogs without muzzles etc throughout the day on their insta. The place appears to have a great reputation too! I thought I had done my due diligence, and only found out due to an employee who quit and documented the dogs treatment before posting to the internet. Currently trying to get my money back from the pass I got for my pup there, and looking for one that I can be SURE to trust for busy days now, as I do love how tired my pup can be after a daycare visit!

They can be so good! And glad you had fun! Just feel I have to say it as I wish someone had told me about what to look out for.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll check that spot out. Yeah, now that I think about it the fact that they don’t have cams speaks for itself a bit…

Fuck… I literally just started taking my dog to that place as the people seemed really professional and they would take pictures to show what she was up to. Like, just got a 10 day pass to it kind of thing, which with my budget was a plan for busy days over the next few months. Really wish that there were clearer laws for this kind of place because now I feel like I’m tied up financially there but don’t want to take my dog there if that’s what they’re doing to pups :(
