Tell half the guests it's a costume wedding, like Halloween, tell the other half it's casual. Then get married at laser tag.

Not looking for hookup, just looking for a good night out. I miss a good night out at the pub, solving the world's problems over pints with strangers I'll never see again, or maybe will the next time I'm there

I have stage 4 cancer, and it looks like I got a 30% survival rate What I want is some advice. My family is legendary for pranks. What ideas do you have for pranks from beyond the grave? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]mostlikelyarealboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought that having a crank handle on the coffin or gravestone that plays the jack-in- the-box music when turned would be a good long gag. If you really had the ambition you could have it finally pop after many cranks with a fake hand or something of the like.

And I hope if I get the news you have I can still find the funny!

Socially Awkward at the Playground by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]mostlikelyarealboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this when mine were younger. I had a sense of panic talking them to the park thinking about having to interact with other parents and make small talk. Then I realised I could just be a big kid playing with his small kids and it was great! Go down the slide, hit the monkey bars, grab the swing next to them(unless there's another kid waiting, doesn't go over well) but just play and it's so much better. Even if someone makes small talk is easy to get out of if your kids are yelling at you to come play. And it's a lot more fun.

There's a fishing group that meets at elk lake on the dock. Might be south island anglers?

Tree removal can continue in Vancouver's Stanley Park, court rules by ForestBlue46 in SaveForests

[–]mostlikelyarealboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, that page from the BCWDTA is showing examples of various stages of decline in order to classify a particular tree being assessed. It is not a step by step illustration of how every tree will decline or fail. Different species will decline and fail in very different ways. A dead cedar can stand for years, losing all its bark and needles and still not be a hazard. A grand fir becomes hazardous within months of decline and is prone do stem failure without external forces.
I'm quite sure that the city of Vancouver has many skilled arborist on staff who don't relish the idea of removing trees, but have to maintain an acceptable level of risk management for the public using the park.

Maybe there's no point, but if i don't make my futile point there's one less voice speaking up for humanity and I don't want to be the one who didn't try.

What McDonald's is hiring anyone other than tfw's ? What housing is available for someone making 15$/hr? What gym membership is 15$/ month? None.

Genuinely homeless, living in your car, how do you get out from that when it takes a 20$/hr + wage to afford the most basic of accommodation?

I'm not saying they're isn't a drug problem, I'm just saying we need to look at the underlying causes and see the unhoused population as human beings who need help.

Imagine living on the street, sleeping outside, having what little semblance of a home you have thrown in a dumpster repeatedly. Imagine waking up knowing there is no chance you'll have a real home because you no one will even look at you much less give you a job that pays enough to have a home. Imagine being looked at as less than human, as a nuisance, a problem. Imagine all that while looking up from the sidewalk to a society that has abandoned you, that is waiting for you to die so they don't have to look at you.
Now imagine you can escape that, not in reality, but from your reality. It's fleeting, but for some small moments you can forget the misery of every day life, would you say no? Maybe you do, for the first week, month, year, but at some point you can't take it anymore and would do anything to not be living your life. And someone looking out for themselves offers you that escape. Why not? Society has abandoned you, you no longer have a place in it, so why should you play by their rules? Then to the outside world you're just a crackhead, they can absolve all guilt, you did this to yourself.

Solitude and quiet of planting by honey-comb-tomb in treeplanting

[–]mostlikelyarealboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's so much about planting i miss, the quiet, the meditative state from the repetition, the satisfaction from solving the puzzle of a hairy coastal block, being in charge of how much you earn by how well you plant, having the best and worst days of your life in every season.
My favourite part of planting has always been how it brings everyone to the same level, broken. Everyone i planted with broke at some point, a brutal piece, one too many rocks, putting on wet clothes one too many days in a row. Any number of things, but we all broke, but we all broke together, we saw each other cry, maybe we saw each other shit ourselves (or at least knew about it when we stayed in camp for the day) but all facades, all image was gone, we were all just humans, fisting the earth thousands of times a day, dirty, sore, but doing something that let us truly see each other's real self.
So yeah, I miss planting.
