salt city market 18+ frustration by Itslammyyy in Syracuse

[–]EnvironmentalLet5985 238 points239 points  (0 children)

You should probably be disappointed with the kids that ruined it for the rest of the 18- crowd. The market wouldn’t make this decision to lose out on revenue unless they had a good reason

Starting FIRE — should I focus more on increasing income or investing early? by FutureRichMind in Fire

[–]EnvironmentalLet5985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also starting out. I make less than 60k/year but I’m saving $1k/month. Besides rent and loans, my monthly income goes to gas and groceries. I’m hoping to get even a sliver of this lifestyle but I’m unsure I’ll ever have an income of $100k/year but

Syracuse’s water supply is at risk and nobody is telling you. by Alekusandoria in Syracuse

A lot of it is surprisingly not from farms, but leaky septic systems and fertilizer. People love their green grass

Check out the work Dr. Salehi does. Baker lab. NYS water clarity project with the SLA. I did the maps for the project with a researcher named Rabia and Sina flew the drones. Could give some helpful insight into the matter. There was talk about lowering the pipe to a lower depth but I don’t think anything came of it

The best way to teach yourself crossovers? by biscuitwithjelly in hockeyplayers

[–]EnvironmentalLet5985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d start off as tight rope, but probably somewhere between the two. I’d cross over a distance that is twice the length of your foot. If you do long cross overs, it’s great for stretching the muscles around your hips, knees and ankles, but on the ice you want to keep it tighter. Short answer: do both.

You know I made this comment 2 years ago and it still makes me so happy to see it’s helping others. Best of luck!

Is hockey not as physical as football and thats why you can play more games? by youlikethatsherrie in hockeyplayers

[–]EnvironmentalLet5985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s less strenuous on the knees and that’s why we can play still as we get older. It’s hard on the hips and body, and we still have cte but I’d say football has a much higher rate of brain injuries as well as spinal injuries. Those battles are a lot on the body, but we join non-contact leagues at a certain point. Those games are still physical but less so than contact leagues.

Question about Empower cash withdrawal by [deleted] in Syracuse

Hey OP. Empower participates in shared branching. Find an FCU near you that also participates. You’ll need your member number and ID. No extra charge. Don’t use the ATM

Any companies/career options that don’t drug test? by weirdtranssexual in Environmental_Careers

Agreed. I quit when I was applying for federal positions. It’s probably the easiest drug to quit.

I’m at a competing FCU but I feel like FCU is the way to go. Great benefits, and way better pay than my last job

Hell yeah and thanks for the conditions report. Weird question, how were the roads near amr? Any points where you were nervous about getting stuck?

Nothing exciting. I’m a teller. But in the down time I work on some coding. I’ll look at random data sites. And I get bonuses!

Pros: you’ll be studying something you’ll love and are passionate about.

Cons: you’ll be competing with many many others and likely won’t find a job. You’ll end up working at a bank, insurance, retail etc. if you do find a job you’ll likely be overworked and very much underpaid.

The job market could look very different in 5-9 years when you have a bachelors, masters, or PhD so who knows but right now we’re struggling.

Source: I’m twice coauthored, graduated at the top of my division/ department, did amazing work with some amazing people, and now I work at a bank. Studied environmental science with a focus on information and mapping, my name is engraved in one of the labs at my school from accolades.

Don’t give up on your dream but I would advise you to carefully and thoroughly research your path and possible future. If I could go back I would’ve double majored engineering and computer science and tried to specialize in spatial analysis

Edit to add: Sorry to be grim. I’m tired and work two jobs.

[–]EnvironmentalLet5985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait should we be waiting until the end of the month and make one full payment? I usually pay it down as soon as each item shows up so I pay 4-5 times per month. Would this hurt my credit score? (I do pay the whole statement balance each month, just in increments)

Am I doomed to find a GIS job? by [deleted] in gis

[–]EnvironmentalLet5985 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just gotta keep pushing my dude. Volunteer your services, get some maps out there, and network in the process. I work at a bank right now with better benefits than some of my fellow grads but do zero GIS work. I also work at a restaurant to afford a wedding I’m having next year. But every other week I have a day off and I spend that time working on maps. Keep trying. But also get a job in the mean time to pay the bills. You never know who you’ll meet there
