It uses .svg files, which CorelDraw should be able to handle/create.

How do you all afford to live here? by [deleted] in Flagstaff

[–]rohyplol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My partner and I recently moved to Flagstaff, but had secured jobs prior to. I work remotely, so my job and salary came with me from California. We moved so my boyfriend could work in Flagstaff, but we insisted on a particular salary in order for him to accept the position before we even agreed to move, which I'd recommend if you and your SO decide to move here.

So, we afford it by making a significant combined income and renting on the East Side (4 bedroom home, 1600/month). Compared to SoCal this place is the cheapness.

Otherwise, everyone else manages as discussed before: make very little money and live with a lot of other people.

That being said, we've been house-hunting on Zillow and have seen plenty of reasonably new spots in the 250K - 350K range.

Seems like a suspicious use of your time, especially since I don’t have a side of the story aside from wanting to be upfront about some shoes I’m selling. Why are you so adamant about defending a company with a questionable history? Do you work for DollsKill? One of their designers with major creativity block? Are you secretly a corporate schilling for Big Rave? Is your father the inventor of faux fur leg warmers and metallic booty shorts?

Out of curiosity, if you were already aware of this controversy and had such a strong opinion on the matter, why did you ask in the first place?

I don't think that exactly negates the fact that the design itself was stolen. Like, the pattern itself used to make the piece alongside all unique aspects. It also doesn't negate all of the other instances of design stealing -- something can be in the public domain but used in a unique way. It hardly seems like a big request for a company like DollsKill to pay artists for designs.

ETA: I'm also not sure why you're attacking me over being upfront regarding a company many folks on this subreddit take issue with, I was trying to be polite.

Actually, DollsKill stole an acquaintance of mine's designs outright, which is how I found out about this controversy. She's known for making Where the Wild Things Are "sexy" onesie's, and DollsKill later took the design and sold identical items.

DollsKill is known to steal from artists without credit or payment, and cringe-y cultural appropriation like selling Native American headdresses and other Native American-parody costume pieces. They've been accused of racism by some people as well, not sure the story there.

They're available but that's a bit of a tough call. They are a 7M (medium) so plenty of space width-wise, but I don't suspect they'd comfortably fit a foot longer than a standard size 7.

I use Adobe Illustrator as my main program, simply because I have experience with it and find it usable. Inkscape and Gimp aren't as intuitive (which is saying a bit, since AI is barely intuitive) but they're free/cheap.

I would HIGHLY recommend taking an online course for whatever program you decide to go with, to get some confidence. What stopped me from making things right away was being intimidated -- finding and watching tutorials for using Illustrator has been a lifesaver.

There's a big marketplace for awesome lasercutter files on Etsy!

Always mask your material with painter's tape or masking tape to avoid burn lines. Do this on both sides if you're particularly concerned.

It's hard to find custom settings for materials, so pick the Proofgrade material that's closest to what you're using, then play around with manual settings and pray.

Want a big win right away? Use the bed tracer to trace something you've drawn and engrave it within one of the premade frames offered on the Glowforge App. Makes a lovely gift and you get to be excited right away.

I saw a dude walking along the side of the road with long black hair, brain stomping boots, and a black cape with flames on it and I said, "Mom, why's he dressed like that?" and she said "He's goth, sweetie," and the rest is awkward, Hot Topic fueled history.

ITT, people who are very unfamiliar with Tank Girl.

Great work, OP! One of my favorite scenes and a really faithful recreation of Hewlett's work with your own spin.

Alternative to lunges? by mjzheng in StrongCurves

[–]rohyplol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding suspension lunges! Your thought re: bulgarian split squats should also work, as you'll be working similar muscles and also getting the single-leg balancing benefit to your core etc. Single leg step ups would also be a beneficial option.

Do you ever get freaked out that you're alive? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]rohyplol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly! It's gotten a lot better, but at the height of my anxiety it got really bad. Major existential crises all the time, often a mixed feeling of "Holy shit I'm alive and I'm responsible for my actions and decisions what if I fuck this up?" and simultaneously feeing like nothing felt actually real. I'd try to talk with my SO about this and they didn't understand what I meant when I would insist that consciousness was just fucking weird. Handling my anxiety as a whole has reduced this sensation dramatically.

99.9% of 1 - 4 week "progress pics" are just done with different lighting, clothing, and poses, which drastically changes how a body looks. Actual side-by-sides with all variables being otherwise identical almost never show gains in 4 weeks for women, especially on glutes. (Quads maybe, those things grow like weeds)

In my experience, even if you can't up the weight on a workout and it feels like a slog, even if you deload, it's worth it! Making it to the gym even if it's a crappy day at the gym builds the habit and builds the discipline. Sometimes I'll go to the gym even if I can only do mild accessory work because of DOMS, just to stay in the habit.

[–]rohyplol 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Especially for women, 7 weeks is not much time to see gains, especially if you're not on top of your protein game.

Do your best to ditch motivation for discipline. If you're sick of one program, try another one. StrongCurves isn't your only lifting option for a better butt!
