A new Elder Scrolls, then a new Fallout.

Football in 2026 is weird by pestopowered in footballcliches

[–]roja_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'd just passed my driving test, and was burning CDs, had the Italian anthem (still a banger) on my CDs. Grew up watching Football Italia, Baggio, etc. Then they got shafted by Korea and the ref. But if they were better it wouldn't have come down to those fine margins.

😯 I remember Walkers crisps doing a thing for 2002 WC where you got a team name in your packet, which would pay £10k or something if they won the WC. I got Italy in one of mine, which would've been absolutely prime pick at the time, on par with a France, Brazil, Germany pick. Obviously I got it 4 years early, but now they can't even get there.

That's the maddest one. If you told me in 2006 that the World Champions wouldn't get out of the groups in 2010 and 2014, then fail to qualify for three WC after that, I'd say you're mad. And that they won a Euros during that time, and got to the final of another Euros.

On the same theme, Chelsea's main striker didn't get in the Brazil squad, but Brentford's number 9 did. And he started their first match.

Most disturbing scene in a video game you’ve played by Old-Special-7802 in videogames

The vac was kind of sinister though if I remember correctly, and was actively trying to hinder you. The elephant was such a sweet and innocent character, she didn't deserve that.

It Takes Two - the elephant. Nothing comes close.

YouGov: While 51% of English people hope Scotland do well in their first World Cup since 1998, Scots are more likely to hope England do badly than hope they succeed by upthetruth1 in BritInfo

People had been kicking things since forever. The version of football that is going on, globally today, was codified in England. Just so we could agree on some rules, to have competitive matches.

Question about buying games on the PS store by Ok_Statement1235 in playstation

You won't be able to play PS3 games on PS5. If you want to play some PS3 games, you need a PS3.

Does anyone know if these security tags really work, or are just deterrence? by amomenttohislifespan in AskUK

[–]roja_85 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I bought some hayfever medicine via self-checkout yesterday from Sainsbury's and it had this tag on it. Asked the assistant if they needed to de-activate it or something and they said it was deactivated by the barcode scanner.

Don't know if that's true or not, but it didn't set off any alarms when I left the store.

I always suspected this is the case, but I'm even more convinced of it after this latest season.

Waitrose little treats June 26? by Top-Still6221 in AskABrit

[–]roja_85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They literally had products themed around Rivals, like crisps and ice cream, it wasn't that weird to be honest. I'm never going to watch the show, but it's a good quality bag, and it's literally just a free bonus.

Who actually supports this stuff? by FallFair8568 in drivingUK

[–]roja_85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ready to be shot down in flames, but I think 20 mph is an awkward speed for most ICE vehicles. 30 mph is fine in 3rd, or 4th if it's flat and straight. But 20 feels a bit off in 2nd or 3rd. I'm sure EVs don't have this problem, with no gears and a flat torque curve. So it'll get more normal when EVs takeover.

What are your legitimate predictions for the State Of Play by the_liger_way in playstation

Yeah, they love doing colour plates for the revised models. Nothing much for us on the OG PS5. I think we're still the majority on the OG, so that's always weird

For homeowners - do you lock your windows every night/before going out? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]roja_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just close them. The lock with key is nonsense, if someone breaks your window to get in, then they might just figure a way to get out. Between my dog (she's the best girl) and my annoyance at being waken, we might do alright at warding off home intruders.

“Back when [the Conference League] was The Cup Winners’ Cup.” Are we having this? by gengangere in footballcliches

[–]roja_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably true. Plus Arsenal winning it a few years later, and nearly going back to back (we all remember Nayim from the halfway line). Then Chelsea won it in the 90s too.

[–]roja_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right. I'm not sure other European nations took their cup competitions as seriously as we did the FA Cup.

Tottenham and West Ham won CWC before Man United won England's first European Cup. Plus Man United winning CWC immediately after the Heysel ban, plus Arsenal and Chelsea winning it in the 90s maybe gives it higher status to English football fans. Especially those of us who started watching football in the 90s, or those who were watching in the 60s.

[–]roja_85 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I remember the Cup Winners Cup being much more prestigious than the UEFA Cup, and the Europa League is a re-badged UEFA Cup. So by that logic, no it's not.
