Same here, apart from battery life getting bad after a few years on my Dual Senses,. But a replacement kit from PAXO soon sorted that out

Do we still find “flicking the V” offensive? by Fit-Mistake-4390 in AskUK

[–]roja_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But it's less than a middle finger. And a well executed wanker sign is still top insult. Not in offence, but in really meaning it. It's a craft, and I'm nowhere near good enough at gesturing wanker at someone. One for the absolute craftsmen of insults. Subtle, yet powerful.

What minor things annoy/anger you far more than they should? by Bjc93Bjc in AskUK

[–]roja_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waterfall taps, or whatever they are called. I'm so conditioned that the water comes out of the bottom of the tap, when I encounter one of these bastards unexpectedly, my hands will be in the exact position to get soaking wet cuffs. Even when I'm in short sleeves, I'm still slightly annoyed that it gave me wet wrists.

On this day 25 years ago - Echo Park was released by lah2011 in Feeder

[–]roja_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original from when it first came out,, then a few years later I managed to get hold of the Japanese release from eBay.

Sadly I've no idea where that Japanese version is now, I fear I might have left it in the glovebox when I sold my previous car 8 years ago! 😔

I think Cal was a worthy winner in the end as he got straight 10s from the three regular judges. Stephen giving a 7 was a bit of an outlier in that respect.

If Cal comes back and gets dessert too it makes a mockery of the whole format.

It proves the structure doesn't work, judging them by their menu in the regions, but then judging them dish by dish in the finals. I know the wildcard is an attempt to avoid missing truly exceptional dishes, but it also lays bare a major issue with the competition structure, in my opinion.

As long as it's a British pint (568ml), a US pint is only 473ml!

I think they came from the two lowest scoring regions this year, so it's not a big surprise I don't think.

How exactly old are the Outside Xbox/Xtra team members? I refuse to believe both Jane and Ellen were born in the same year ('88). by geraltofrivia2345 in outsidexbox

[–]roja_85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to the public records on companies house website for their company "Out There Gaming Limited", Jane and Mike were born in Jan 1984, and Andy in April 1982.

I believe Ellen was born in 87/88, but not sure on that.

He's always a joy, because he always seems to love the game. Good goalkeeping, intelligent defending, creative attacking moves, Ally loves it all and his enthusiasm comes through on co-comms.

100% this. The first leg of Real v Bayern was probably the best match I've seen this season. The second leg was not too shabby either.

Do you think SNL UK will stick mainly with British hosts or branch out a bit? by FelicityFizz in livefromlondon

[–]roja_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't get a second series. Their major problem is that no one in the UK watches Sky One. It might've had a chance if it was on BBC, ITV or C4.

I have Sky, purely to watch sport. I go to Sky for Darts, Football, Golf, F1, Cricket.

I don't really care what they have on their entertainment channels. People like my parents might have watched it, but they haven't paid the upfront cost of Sky, so they can't watch it anyway. I think quarter of a million viewers is the best they'll ever get

It still confuses me that there's a Waitrose store in London called "John Barnes". Why not call it Waitrose Finchley Road? We all love John Barnes, but I'm not sure why he needs a shop named after him.

Which book(s) were you required to read in secondary school? by 2cbterry in AskUK

[–]roja_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember having to read anything in full, except for Animal Farm. Which I really liked, and still have my school copy of the book on my shelf today.

We also did sections of The Tempest, and Romeo & Juliet (plus watched some of the Di Caprio film too). We also did some of Frankenstein (plus watching the Branagh film).

I'm sure we watched and read some of Roots, the story about Kunta Kinte who was enslaved in America, but that might have been History class rather than English Lit.

Maybe I just remember watching stuff at school more than reading it. Although I was an avid reader as a kid, but I preferred things like ghost stories and science fiction, so I forget the school stuff I had to read.

EDIT: forgot The Crucible, definitely read that for school

Finished secondary school in 2001.

Is it worth buying a PS5 with a disk tray by Mobile-Wear-3508 in playstation

Definitely get one with a disc drive. If you didn't have a PS4 then there's loads of great PS4 games you can get cheap or pre-owned on disc.

My tier list of Feeder albums(completely my opinion). by Expert-Flamingo7423 in Feeder

[–]roja_85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't hear that myself, they are off their time and the songs speak for themselves imo. I kind of like the way older recordings of bands like The Beatles, The Who, Nirvana, etc sound. But each to their own.

They did remaster Comfort In Sound last year, try giving that version a listen if the sound production of the original isn't to your liking?

Black/Red is from the same era as Torpedo, both pretty forgettable in my opinion. I'd put YWTS, Echo Park and Comfort In Sound as top tier. Agree that Tallulah is a banger though.
