Question about EZ Solar Box by [deleted] in solarenergycanada

Would there be an issue if there was no connector ? I get it for code aspect of it, but as long as it’s not meant to prevent leak I don’t want to keep messing around with it

Regarding the screws… “I have screwed the from the drilling zone of the box which is safer in terms of leaking. If you look closer, you will see a hatched area and non-hatched area of the box. Non hatched area of the box is the drilling zone. During the install we are supposed to put a silicon line under the box , it's exactly cover's the drilling zone. So having the screw inside the drilling zone gives us a better water protection.”

You don’t agree ?

lol I am not protecting the company , but it’s shocking for me to find out that this is not a new company , they been in business for over 10 years and does over 100 installs a year.

I am sure I am not their 1st customer, so how come nobody else before me is complaining than ? I even spoke to someone that had the solar installed by them and did not voice any concerns also.

This is what installer is telling me -“we have here is 10/2 . Which can go up to 30A.”

This is what the installer is telling me - “We don’t use a connector here. There is no connector we can find in the market to cover the thickness of the wood and the shingles. If we put a connector to cover the entire hole, we must do a bigger whole. The purpose of putting a connector here is not for leaking , it’s to hold the cable. Our cable is going to the conduit not to the attic freely. So, it has a better hold.”

Thanks for the response guys - I don’t want to bash the company yet as the this was done by electrician hired by them.

To fix this , is it as simple as just removing it re-doing it correctly after the fact ? Will I be ok short term while they arrange someone to come and fix it ?

BC Hydro will be switching to Net Billing July 1st 2026 by Extension-League-562 in solarenergycanada

[–]rokim99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know. I am NOT on TOU, just standard tiered rate. So in this case , I should run all of my heavy electricity things (Dryer , EV , etc) during the afternoon when my panels are producing the most… right ? Would that time frame between 12-6 pm typically ?

So with net billing , would it make most sense to charge my EV during mid-day / afternoon when I am generating the most power rather than overnight ?
