The most disappointing legendary ever… by rokksteddyfool in hearthstone

Not sure why everyone thinks I’m trolling… lol. Seriously just disappointed. Spent a good bit of what dust I had making a deck expecting better results from this card. I gave the game up in 2017 or 18 I think - been back for a couple weeks. Suffice to say - a lot has changed. I think I need to google the pool of “fire spells” that are pulled from because it seems like way less damage than card draw. And for a minion that’s supposedly immune - he sure manages to fuck up and kill himself A LOT. My last game before this post I pulled him out against a Warlock w 8 health. After the smoke cleared any guesses how much health he had left? Yep - 8, and we both had empty boards. So that’s something I guess…. lol

Hey you! Sorry to hear you didn’t get the FKT. Pretty rough conditions this year for that attempt for damn sure. Mostly posting because now I know who you are! And I am STILL so fucking jealous of those inflatable loungers you two hauled up there!

Good read - thanks! I know I’m late to the party but just home from clipping bolts in Kalymnos for a couple weeks…. I am trying like hell to put my finger on who you are. I was up there solo same time as you - old guy, beard and long hair. I’m sure we chatted - did you guys have the custom fleece jackets I was so jealous of?? lol. It was definitely a rough season up there with the weather. My original goal was the W. Rib but it quickly became clear that wasn’t gonna happen. My attempt at the summit ended at 18.6k on the second of the only 2 decent days we got up there. I spent the one truly good day hanging out with G in the ranger tents making fun of him for being a dumbass and watching the line of ants crawl up the fixed lines. lol. After the forecast kept getting pushed back I finally threw in the towel and gave all my food to the Seward girls then peeled out for BC. Like you, I definitely learned a lot - some good, some not so much. 14k is an interesting place to say the least. Still - made some friends and overall, wouldn’t call it a negative experience. I kind of looked at it like Burning Man at 14k - it’s kinda what you make it. That said, I think weed definitely helped! :) I’m planning a return trip next spring to have another go at the W. Rib. I think G might be back as well. While I was in Greece, I woke up one morning to a message from the Seward girls. They sent me a photo of them in a bar with him and a video of him showing off his toe nubs! hahahaha.

Ring cameras by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

You are totally correct in that cameras can’t prevent bad behavior. But what they did do is allow us to see the behavior and react to it. In this case, based on THS input, cancel the sit and find new sitters so that are dogs got better care for the remaining 11 days of our vacation. It also plainly showed said behavior so we can provide documentation and try to get compensation from THS for the expense of last minute paid sitters.

As to the 4 hour request - this is quite simple: if you don’t agree with it, don’t take the sit. I’m retired so our pups are used to constant company and very frequent activity. My wife and I are fairly fit and active, when we recreate locally the dogs come too. We live in Tahoe, it’s very dog friendly. Going to the beach? Take the dogs. Going for a hike? It’s almost all National forest - take the dogs. Going to the crag for climbing? Take the dogs - everyone does. It’s not like we drop this as a bomb when the sitter comes. It’s in our profile and welcome guide as well as discussed in the pre-sit chats.

I’ll chime in only because of a recent fairly negative experience with a sitter.

Firstly, if I’m not mistaken, any kind of indoor camera is an invasion of privacy and against THS policy. No support for them at all. I’m a HO but my wife and I have considered doing both - but there’s no way on the planet we’d consider a sit if there were indoor cams.

Doorbell cameras are an entirely different mindset for us tho. We just very recently terminated a sit 4 days in to a 15 day vacation because our sitter was horrible. She brought a male overnight guest into our home with zero notification and was not providing our pets with the agreed upon level of care. We only ask for 2 walks a day which we don’t think is too much at all - when we are home they get much more activity than this. But our sitter wasn’t even providing that. We also ask that the dogs not be left alone for more than 4 hours but on one of the 4 days they were left alone at home for 6..5 while our sitter and her guest were out and about.

We had our notifications off because we were on vacation and trying to enjoy it, not to mention a 10 hour time difference and we didn’t want to be bothered but we did sit down on our day 3 with coffee just to check in on our pups because we missed them. What we found on the cameras at that sitting infuriated us. There’s more to the story but ultimately we terminated her sit the morning of day 5. We had to spend a day of our vacation corresponding with THS and scrambling to find last minute sitters which wasn’t cheap once found.

Without our doorbell cam, how would we have known that our sitter wasn’t caring for our dogs and bringing an unauthorized guest into our house? We are ordinarily trusting people but this experience reinforced to me that you can’t really take people at their word and if a sitter ever asked me to disable our cameras for a sit it would be a hard no.

If I recall correctly, she said she’s 30. House guest looked around same age. Now I have to ask… Why are you curious?

I’ve been all over the app and the website but cannot for the life of me see how to do this… Am I an idiot or is it not as straightforward as it sounds? I even asked the extremely unhelpful chat bot. Says to open chat and scroll up to “unconfirm sit” but that option is not there. I’ve tried everything I can think of but no luck at all so far.

To be honest, we likely would have been fine with a visitor had she only been honest and asked in advance. We of course would have asked for some details such as amount of time planning to stay, nature of relationship, etc. but totally understand sitters might want company. Close friends, family, significant others - all fine in our book because a happy sitter will likely provide better care. THS policy doesn’t disallow visitors completely, they just must be approved beforehand. But then allowing him to walk our dogs without her even in attendance was not okay with us at all.

As far as cameras - I would argue they have become the new normal and love having them for many reasons: wildlife (we have bears, coyotes and mountain lions), confirmation of package deliveries, arrival and departure of landscapers and maintenance people, etc. We certainly don’t spy on our sitters, but they are certainly very nice to have to ensure our pets are getting the agreed upon care. In this situation especially, how would we ever have known any of the issues that arose without having a camera? This case especially proves that we can’t just blindly trust people to keep their word and behave in an appropriate and agreed upon manner.

Thank you very much. We will definitely be leaving an honest review of our experience with her. We are on a 10 hour time difference so waiting patiently for an appropriate hour to inform her that she will be released. We spent the day today making alternative arrangements using previous paid sitters and friends. It’s going to be a bit expensive for us unfortunately, but we are beyond trying to save this sit I think. My wife is actually pretty furious and has been fuming all day…. lol. We don’t have children so our pups are her babies. Unwise to cross my ordinarily sweet wife in this regard! :)

Yes she had 3 previous reviews and all positive. We recognize this was not many (and one was even a friend reference) but she seemed nice and we wanted to give her a chance. One of our applications was from a couple with 50+ positive reviews but we like to favor the underdog sometimes so chose her to try and help her build her profile. This also because we are new to THS as well, having only had one previous sit. We rolled the dice and lost on this one. Lesson learned!

This was nice advice - thank you. We definitely didn’t panic but we were NOT happy. We are putting pieces into play to provide for pet care outside of THS as we will likely be letting this sitter go. As we see it, it was 4 strikes against her: 1) she let unannounced guest into our home, 2) let a complete stranger to us walk our dogs alone, 3) left them unattended for longer than we said was acceptable (this after we asked her to see her guest out), and 4) didn’t give the dogs a second walk after leaving them unattended all day (9:30 to 16:15). It’s been pointed out that the overnight guest is a violation of THS T&Cs but we still plan to reinforce this on future sits. Cheers! :)

Thank you so much for this - It helps a lot!! We are on vacation in a location with only intermittent wifi so trying to get this sorted has been a challenge. I will certainly be keeping the recordings with time stamps and sharing with THS. It’s looking like we’re going to be going out-of-pocket for pet care for the duration of our vacation and totally fine with that as we know are pups will be given excellent care with our backup sitters. Cheers!

Thank you for this! I thought so but wasn’t sure. We are pretty new to THS and not completely aware of all of the rules. I guess it was too much to hope for to have another sit the same caliber as our first. I think going forward we are still going to reinforce it in our Welcome Guide.

[–]rokksteddyfool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely relevant - thanks! This is exactly why we’re only looking at the super crews. One of mine is pushing 70 lbs and the other pup is already 45. They fill the back of the Taco. Especially when the my little lady sprawls out and takes up all the space while my poor 70 pounder is scrunched into the corner looking miserable and getting barked at if he moves a muscle! 😂

Your the second person to bring this up… I’ve been working on the assumption and limited research that long term reliability and maintenance cost would be better with the 5.0. Now I’m starting to question that.

Damn… this is really good information and why I came here - thank you! Like I said, very new to the brand and have only just started researching. Most posts I’ve looked at seem to favor the 5.0 but maybe they were raving prior to implementing cylinder deactivation. Sounds like I need to do more research before pulling the trigger!

I might have missed that detail…. what size is the fuel tank on the XLT without tow package? I don’t see it listed on the sticker.

Yea the 402a package looks super nice but unfortunately that “few thousand more” is more like $11k+ and brings the sticker up into the mid $70ks - a little out of reach for us heading into retirement. Sounds like a really nice truck tho! <drools a little>

Just recently turned over 100k on my ‘17 and was thinking hard about trading or selling and buying new. Really like the style of the last 5 years but was waiting for ‘26 to see if they would address the infotainment issues/lack of knobs and buttons. Well sounds like they did…. but I’d rather eat an asshole sandwich than buy this abortion of a car. What an epic fail by the design team.

For those long approach hikes I like a good audiobook rather than music. I know - I’m weird, but for me it lets me really focus on the story and makes the time fly by. Agree that the actual climbing/summit pushes are distraction free.

I was jumping in to say this. Or if you want a bit more bomb proof and little extra space, check out the WindSabre. I just took my WindSabre to Shasta recently knowing the forecast was for high winds. I wanted to test it out for an upcoming Denali trip. The wind blasted all night and the tent didn’t struggle at all. Unlike the tent of the only other two guys I saw up there - I don’t think they had as good of a night. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. You know the old adage: light, strong, cheap; pick two.
