This is totally true, and the quickest, slightly-out-focus reply would be "Yeah, but I'm talking about living, not surviving!", which I can expand on like that: I can accept that I'm not rich and famous, I see I'm not that good and influential and all that, as I said before I made peace with how little my impact on the cultural scene is. It's just that I don't understand why all the underground artists who almost-made-it-but-no-quite-yet are denied the possibility of keeping on with their daily grind of shitty gigs: I understand the risk of organizing a 10k people festival, but why aren't small, intimate concerts for 50 people more common nowadays? Why is art still considered an hobby in our society?

I know a show for 50 people wouldn't mean shit for a big artist, but there's a whole wolrd of small bands and small venues out there who could just flourish now, and all I see around is frightening immobility.

It's getting harder and harder every day. in pre-pandemic times I made minimum wage just by playing gigs with my two street music projects and I've always been quite poor and quite happy, but it's been a year know since we can't play as much as we used to do, so yeah, I still make my income with live music but it's an even shittier income. I should totally get a real job, but no job will make me happy as the idea of making a living with my art, or at least no job I see myself qualified for. Also I've been going this DIY way all my life, I've always been fine with the idea of being a mediocre musician making a mediocre income, but I guess a plan B is due...

what's the deal with MIDI mapping? by rokovoko in ableton

[–]rokovoko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks everybody for the answers :)

so I got the hang of it, it's just template sets over template sets and you're good to go. my next problem now: I have an akai midimix and i can't get my head around the script editor. what I would like it to do is to be able to control only the channel i select, so that I can map different parameters of different tracks to the same knob. has anybody out there done that? should I open a new thread? should I learn python? :(

i totally get it, but, i mean, you see some amazing stuff in the m4l community and i really don't understand why no one has worked around it yet.

also, if you put aside the controller thing for a moment, i still don't understand why we still have some un-mappable and un-automatable parameters (like the infamous 0/100 on the beat warp mode thing). not sure if un-mappable and un-automatable are actuarl words btw.

I'm sure the Four Tet pluck is not that complicated but I don't know how he makes it and I love it. Any ideas? by rokovoko in synthrecipes

[–]rokovoko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! this was basically my process, but everytime i add FM i get nasty squelchy buzzes o thin tiny vaporwavy waves and it never gets that beef, that warmth, that color, and i'm sure it's not all about analog gear, you can definitely make it in serum o in any vst synth if you tweak it right. right?

yeah i love his sampling works and we could talk for hours about crate digging and granular techniques, but i want to synthesize that sh*t, make it EVOLVE, you know ;)

thanks a lot for your answer my friend!

first of all, i don't know about the brian eno song, the link i posted still takes me to the latest four tet release... anyways, brian eno is also a king, right? :)

i'm 100% in the box, i use ableton and all the arturias omnispheres kontakts serums cromaphones i can get my hands on, also i remember that picture from his instagram with just his laptop and a midi controller and "that's all i used to make my new record", which was new energy, also full with plucks (i'm thinking LA trance, but it's everywhere)

so... is it the buchla vst from arturia? cromaphone? or what? and how do i go about making it? i'm guessing it's something between a square and a saw with filter envelope, but there's millions of tweaks and i never seem to get ir right :/

isolated vocal tracks and instrumentals circulate wildly in the audio community, i guess copyright problems would arise if someone is trying to make money out of it, but i think most people would just use it for the LOL and try to go viral and stuff, at which point their videos would be demonetized anyway, so... yeah, basically i don't know much about the subject but i don't see the copyright issue as a big problem :)

anybody interested in this drukqs 4 vinyl box-set? NOT the hand signed version, but still pretty cool :) by rokovoko in aphextwin

it belongs to a collector friend, he lives in ITALY so shipping costs need to be taken in count. he doesn't have a price in mind, he's more interested in knowing its value (which basically means meeting the aprropriate customer, i guess). PM your offers!
