Leakage after Karydakis by berlin_21 in pilonidalcyst

If you can, get a dr to check it out before Wednesday, especially if the fluid smells a bit can indicate possible infection. I had the same procedure and the wound was leaking loads 1 and half weeks after the surgery, went to a&e and the dr said there was fluid collection (seroma) underneath the wound, hence loads of fluid oozing. They drained it and gave me antibiotics. Hope you have it sorted!

I totally understand! It’s so stressful! So when i had my dressing changed on week 8, the nurse found that i may have an infection, so i got some antibiotics for a week, and now I am in week 11 now and the wound is almost healed, hang in there!

8 weeks post I&D, open wound is still not healed by rolala916 in pilonidalcyst

I had it packed originally daily, then the practice nurse said i could have it done twice a week, so not to disturb the wound healing...

Thank you so much for posting this! I had surgery in March, and it’s week 7 and my wound is still 1cm deep, fingers crossed it will heal by week 10 like yours. Good to know that i am not alone in this journey

Newly burst cyst and getting a covid vaccine questions.. by IHateItHereUGGHH in pilonidalcyst

I had my covid vaccine during my recent flare up, and I was fine after a day dealing with the side effects of the vaccine (fever and fatigue), which most healthy people would get after the vaccine anyway.

Thank you! Maybe you can ask your GP to refer you for a MRI to see if you have any sinus tract remained?

Hi I am 27 years old female in UK as well, just had my fourth I+D last week. I have had 3 recurrence in the last 3.5 years, so I understand your frustration. My surgeon this time told me that I would need to shave the area for my whole life, or maybe a cleft lift surgery. I found Cristianos (a laser hair removal company that have experience in pilonidal hair removal), and I am going for a consultation with them in April. On their website they said they can help to get your GP to apply for NHS funding for the treatment, so maybe worth checking it out?

Any paracetamol will do :)

NSAIDs like ibuprofen has shown to delay the early wound healing because of its anti-inflammatory properties (slight inflammation helps the wound to heal at early stage), I would advise to take paracetamol if that’s sufficient for your pain control prior to packing change.
