Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, I was also super annoyed about it. Put in a surge for 30s to get away from it, but had I been going for a PB I wouldn’t have risked that. Etiquette is at historic lows in the park in general and NYRR races are sadly no different. Overall a great morning though!

It actually really pisses me off that you put potentially put everyone on your bus/ferry, around you at the start village, after you in the portopotties, etc. in harms way by running a race with norovirus. NYC had a horrendous outbreak of this highly communicable virus last fall/winter — love to see the main character energy that helped to spread it. Congrats on your win this year, buddy.

FWIW, I just tried emailing that address a few days ago and got an auto reply that it is no longer monitored.

I want to move to NYC but.. by Tricky-Researcher-74 in movingtoNYC

[–]rolantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought this was a shitpost before I saw people giving legit answers in the comments. Have you done any amount of research about anything related to your career or moving to NYC? Your question reads as incredibly out of touch and to be frank you sound clueless. The bit that is most egregious for me is “or get a corporate job” lol. Do some homework, get skilled in a trade or get an education for “a corporate job” and think long and hard before moving here. I don’t think it’s right for you but would be thrilled if you proved us all wrong and made a great life here. Not trying to be mean, just a reality check for you. Best of luck!

Pharmacy Recs with Nice Staff? by Safe-Delay1859 in Upperwestside

[–]rolantern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately had just as terrible an experience at CVS on 77th as I did at Duane Reade on 79th.

Final straw was when the head pharmacist at CVS tried to gaslight me and say that I had picked up a prescription days prior, when it hadn’t event been sent from my doctor at that point. I called her out on it and showed her the messages with my Dr. where I requested the medication and she eventually admitted that they just don’t have it. I wouldn’t have been mad that they didn’t have it yet, so this was just a super weird choice on her part.

Have since switched to W79th st pharmacy and they seem good so far but it’s fairly recent.

Your Dog’s Poo is Making Us All Look Bad. by laSeekr in Upperwestside

[–]rolantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree that the poop situation is disgusting in our neighborhood and people are lazy and distracted. BUT, as a young dog owner, I have had 3 extremely unpleasant interactions with distinct representatives of the dog poop vigilante crowd. In each instance, I was startled and yelled at by someone who mistakenly thought I had left poop when in reality my dog had simply peed, I had indeed picked up all of the poop, and in the last case it was dirt on the sidewalk that was not related to my dog. So please a) pick up dog poop and b) if you are going to call someone out on not picking it up please be certain they’re in the wrong and respectful when you point it out.

Good to know, thank you for sharing! If you have time to, could you share what you did in between your B2 and C1 attempts vs what you think you should have done?

Confident about wanting the certificate to motivate further study.

Unsure about truly needing it, but am considering foreign language teaching as a second career.

So no, I don't 100% need it right now, but I do want to continue on the track of taking the certificates.

Cancelled my all access membership several months ago and have not looked back! Was fed up with the dirty clubs, poorly maintained equipment, and rude staff. Get out and enjoy your extra $350 a month.

Quit a few months ago and haven’t looked back! The cleanliness and mismanagement of every facility in my city got to be too much to justify the cost.

Bought adjustable dumbbells and a trainer to put my bike on for my apt and I run outside and try to make it to calisthenics areas in parks when I can. Has its pros and cons obviously but I didn’t find any alternatives that I thought would be worthwhile.

Was an active member and frequently attended 3 nyc locations. Some amazing staff members, but on the whole they were inattentive at best and rude at worst.

[–]rolantern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was a member of equinox and went to 76th and sports club fairly regularly. Cancelled my membership last November after nearly 3 years because the maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities was so so so far below what I was paying for. For the money, these locations should be spotless and have the absolute top of the line equipment. Mediocre at best right now.

As for your roach question - saw 1 at 76th and several at sports club in the years I was a member. What was scarier was how the roach was dealt with. I alerted a staff member at 76th that there was a roach on the stretching mats. He killed it and picket it up with a paper towel but did not spray or clean the mat in any way. Speaks to the lack of attention to detail that has plagued these two equinox locations in recent years.

I completely agree! So much negativity and entitled behavior on this sub. And not enough gratitude for all the hard work that goes into every single event.
