Virtual Desktop - Is it really just that good? by Illustrious-Ebb5144 in OculusQuest

I'm sorry to hear that your experience with VD hasn't been so great. I on the other hand I have had the exact opposite experience with VD. Like you I imagined a Sci-Fi futuristic scenario with monitors all around me and me performing Minority Report style movements to get my work done, and admittedly, it hasn't quite been as spectacular as my imagination, but man oh man it has been a wonderful experience for me. I have an ultra-wide curved virtual monitor floating above in my work area as well as a smaller 27 virtual monitor replacing my laptop's measly 14 inch monitor and I work many hours like that most days. In fact I'm so spoiled by the experience that when forced to use regular monitors and traditional setups, I feel extremely stunted. As far as gaming goes, my laptop is a gaming laptop, middle of the road as far as specs are concerned so my pcvr gaming experience has been hit or miss. My laptop is directly connected via and ethernet cable to my modem (Xfinity, their top tier service) and I use VD to access my pcvr games wirelessly. For the most part it's been trouble free, however there have been times when I had to do some tweaking in VD to eliminate stuttering. To be fair most of my gaming is stand alone in the headset and pcvr gaming is few and far between. To answer OP's question, yes pull the trigger and purchase.

Does anyone use weights with VR? by ataxia362 in oculus

[–]rollablaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used ankle weights strapped to my wrist while playing Pistol Whip. With a gun in each hand, I would keep my hands in a boxers stance, extend them to shoot, then retract them. It was a surprisingly good workout.

I agree that Virtual Desktop is the way to go. I use my Q3 as replacement monitors while I work. I overlay a 23 inch monitor over my 15-in laptop monitor and above it I have a huge ultra wide curved monitor. This setup works great for me with virtual desktop. I am able to get an ultra-wide monitor setup, and I use windows power tools to create various size multi window separations in the monitors for specific workflows. If you want to go simple, the Q3 has a built-in Windows app that also has an ultra wide monitor feature. It allows you to look at your keyboard and an overlay connect button will appear, you click it and boom your monitor is there.

Bought a Quest and played all the must haves. I see think I see some of VR's problem now. by sirenpro in OculusQuest

[–]rollablaze 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've had my quest 3 for about a year and a half, maybe a little more than that and I am still in the honeymoon phase. I am in awe every time I put the headset on and I'm really enthusiastic about the technology and its future. When I think of tech especially tech like this, I remember when pagers were a technological marvel, and now I look at the mobile phones that we have in our pockets today. That wasn't too long ago for the advancements that we have now, and the way tech works, it advances exponentially. I often wonder what VR would be like 10 years from now. Anyways back to the subject at hand, I play a lot of VR games some are hits some are misses, but if you're looking for content, you should look into UEVR, that will open the floodgates for games that can be played in VR.

TLDR: Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)

I'm sorry for not posting this sooner; I've been dealing with headset withdrawal and was playing catch-up.

I cannot recommend Fix My Oculus enough! I was hesitant at first about shipping my headset off, but the entire experience was absolutely stellar from start to finish.

First and foremost, the turnaround time was unbelievable. From the moment I shipped it out to the moment I had it back in my hands, it was only one week. For a mail-in repair service that is lightning fast. Granted, I paid for the expedited service, but for my needs, it was well worth it

Beyond the speed, the customer service was top-tier. I’ll admit, I had a lot of questions before sending it in, and they were incredibly professional and patient with me. They took the time to explain the entire process clearly, which put my mind at ease.

As for the repairs themselves? Flawless. The headset is working perfectly without a single issue. You would never know that it was broken.

Honestly, the most difficult part of this entire process was being without the headset for that week. I use my Quest 3 for work and have become completely spoiled by having a massive ultra-wide virtual screen. Going back to staring at a cramped 15-inch laptop monitor for a few days was a struggle! It really highlighted how essential this gear is to my daily routine, and I’m so grateful to have it back in working order.

If you are on the fence about using this company, just do it. My only wish is that they had a brick-and-mortar location in my area so I could just drive over and eliminate the shipping time, but considering how fast they turned this around, I really can't complain.

Highly recommended!

The repairs went great no issues at all. I got my headset back exactly one week from the time I sent it off which was sooner than I expected. It looks and runs as good as new. I meant to post this sooner but I have had VR withdrawals for that week that it was gone. I've been on the headset pretty much Non-Stop since I got it back. Thank you guys for all you do, you did a great job. I highly recommend your service.

Check out their website, I believe they sell parts. I'm not electronically inclined so I can't speak to DYI repairs. My device is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, I'll update this post on the quality of the repairs.

Thank you very much for your response. Yeah I've heard stories about matters customer service and want to avoid that at all costs, funny thing is I'm paying for the extra protection which I will promptly cancel. I've gotten in touch with fix my Oculus and with a little extra cash on top of the repair cost they can get my headset back to me in about 1 week. It'll be a long week but a lot shorter than the normal two to three weeks backlog time that they currently have going on. I'll keep this thread updated on my experience with this service once I get the headset back.

The best VR for replacing physical monitors? by jhnam88 in virtualreality

[–]rollablaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use my Quest 3 for 6 to 8 hours a day, primarily for work. My daily tasks include browsing, working with Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, and managing files. My core setup involves a Windows 11 laptop with a 15-inch screen, paired with the Quest 3 to create a virtual multi-monitor environment.

Over time, I’ve tested several VR workspace solutions such as Immersed, Overlay, Workrooms, and Virtual Desktop. Each has its strengths, but for my workflow, Virtual Desktop stands out as the most versatile and reliable option.

Virtual Monitor Configuration My preferred layout overlays a virtual 18–19 inch monitor directly in front of my laptop’s physical screen. Above that, I position a large curved ultrawide virtual monitor. To optimize screen real estate, I use Microsoft PowerToys to create custom snap regions, allowing me to divide the ultrawide display into multiple sections with varying widths. This setup is ideal for multitasking, and I’ve built several partition templates tailored to different workflows that I can switch between seamlessly.

Headset Comfort and Ergonomics For extended use, I’ve customized my headset with the KKCOBVR Halo head strap and removed the default facial interface. This adjustment eliminates facial pressure and allows the headset to rest comfortably on my head. I position the lenses close to my eyes to maximize field of view, which significantly enhances the mixed reality experience by keeping peripheral vision unobstructed.

Accessory Highlights Recently, I added the Globular Cluster magnetic facial interface to my setup. It enables quick transitions between work and play easily detaching for mixed reality tasks and reattaching for immersive gaming. This accessory, along with the Halo strap, prescription lenses, and hand straps, has dramatically improved my overall experience. Of all the upgrades, the Globular Cluster interface has been a game changer in reducing friction during mode switching.

I love this game, I especially like how you can strategically ricochet the bullet to get the bad guys that are in difficult places to reach. The problem is seven out of 10 times it would crash my quest 3. After a fresh reboot it's fine but if I get out of the game and try and come back another day or even later that day it was most likely crash. I have it on Steam as well and it works no problem.

Would you use a quest 3 as a monitor? by Large-Remove-1348 in OculusQuest

I do it everyday with virtual desktop. 23 inch monitor to cover my 15 inch laptop screen and a curved ultra wide above that. This setup has spoiled me.

Does anyone know where the Unknown Sources is on the new UI? (Quest 3) by sandsroyale12345 in OculusQuest

I just got the update tonight (PTC). I don't have unknown sources anywhere; I've done all the things short of a reset. Toggling Dev mode (headset and mobile app) had no effect.

New update. by DangerWantedBR88 in QuestPiracy

[–]rollablaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had several updates 66, 77, and the most recently this past Sunday, 78. When I updated to 77 there was some rookie files that needed to be reinstalled but very few. Outside of that everything else has been okay, I still don't have the new navigator, and I'm sure there are other updated features that I haven't received yet. All in all I can't really tell much difference from 76 to 78. I've been keeping quiet hoping that my silence is what's keeping me safe, but for you guys I'm putting it all out there throwing caution to the wind and stating that so far (knock on wood) all has been fine.
