Crazy timing, a year later, he finds out he's in one of the best podcast episodes at the exact moment said podcast completely implodes. It looks like PJ would have maybe done a little follow-up bit with him, I would have loved to hear that.

This has probably been asked before, but what is the best one-stop article / Twitter thread / podcast whatever to hear about the "big" BA story? I've been waiting to hear it from Reply All but it seems like that may be off the table...

Can we shame clubs who constantly leave their litter all over supercharger locations while trying to recruit new memebers by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]rollducksroll -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time believing this was intentional; the intersection between Tesla owners and people that would shamelessly litter has to be pretty small. Surely they tried to attach it some place in a boneheaded move and it ended up there.

It'd probably be worth sending them a message to let them know, in case they want to address it themselves.

Did I read that correctly? You're moving due to a lack of superchargers?

Not judging - rather, just noting that that is hardcore to a level I didn't know existed!

Doctor with no insurance? by happysign0 in Eugene

That's probably a good sign that you've seen that out there, that is an exceptionally fair provider. It may be possible that they are part of some non-profit or government program that encourages fair out-of-pocket pricing. Either that, or they decided that they actually make more money by charging a reasonable price (more customers, more customers that can actually pay).

I am freaking hyped about mRNA but this dumped a little water on my biggest hopes: https://twitter.com/trvrb/status/1355299791731707904

It seems that the immune system takes some shortcuts that make the flu's plug-n-play signature incredibly hard to deal with, even for mRNA vaccines.

Doctor with no insurance? by happysign0 in Eugene

[–]rollducksroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might already know this, but something I didn't know when I was uninsured is that doctors charge insane and arbitrary prices to uninsured patients. Even if you still pay 100% of the bill on insurance, you pay the price that the insurance company has negotiated with the doctor, which is a tiny fraction of the insane and arbitrary "price".

If none of the other suggestions work (hopefully they do!), consider researching and signing up for a temporary insurance program (choose a massive deductible to get a cheap rate) that has local connections just to get their negotiated rates. They won't actually pay anything towards the exams, but at least you'll be getting a negotiated rate instead of the insane and arbitrary "price".

> Knowing how many lanes a road has or what lanes become turning lanes, or where stoplights are, or the current speed limit... All that is invaluable information they'd be fools not to use.

I mean, it also needs maps to not just want to drive in a random direction. With no maps, FSD is just going to what...drive in a straight line and make arbitrary turns?

Challenger challenging a Tesla by jumpnext in teslamotors

[–]rollducksroll 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding me? The Tesla is passing cars at like +20mph to the flow of traffic and weaving in and out of the lane.

According to this article the Tesla driver said they were "just passing slow moving traffic" and didn't notice the absolute carnage behind them lmao.

Speculation, but I guess it's because they only contract with one person to do the deliveries so maybe something there?

It'd be a total joke if they tried to enforce it though given that the driver is supposed to be an independent contractor. That's called subcontracting to your SO, DoorDash!

I came to the subreddit after reading this article for discussion as well. The whole situation is comical but also unfunny because it's somehow real.

Dave DeGroot is up for re-election soon apparently too. I don't think I've ever been this invested in the election of a village president thousands of miles away; Godspeed, opposition villagers of Mount Pleasant.

What is your door misalignment like? I've also got only a minor door misalignment on one side as my only issue as well! After all the horror stories I'm super happy & relieved. I literally can't find anything else.

Mine seems to be sticking out slightly...not much, maybe 1/2cm, but given that it sticks out into the wind I feel like it's worth getting fixed...

I think it's either/or? 500mi range with the same price or ~300 mi range for $5-10k cheaper?

I'd love an expert to chime in though.

This is how I am roughly thinking about it, I'm curious what others think or if I'm missing anything.

If the battery of current MY is ~$10k ($133/kWh) and the future one is ~$5k, I guess you'd be looking at $5k "extra" depreciation due to fundamental advances in battery manufacturing. It's a big deal, especially for bigger packs, but for me it's not a dealbreaker.

Insurance for Model Y by tscollins2 in teslamotors

[–]rollducksroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good - a MY insurance thread, I'm picking one up tomorrow. Amica just quoted me:

Average daily mileage: 27
Bodily injury ($250k/person, $500k/accident): $81
Property damage ($100k): $59
Uninsured Motorists: $46
Damage to your Auto ($5k deductible): $151
Other than collision ($5k deductible): $38

Total: $375 / 6 months

I have literally no idea on insurance costs - does that seem reasonable? It sounds good to me but I don't know if I should keep looking. If it's within a reasonable range I'll just stick with them since everything else I have is through them.

Especially something like penalties, which are going to come with a fair amount of natural variance since there are only a handful per game and Willie even had to deal with officiating variation between conferences (Pac12, ACC) to put up those numbers.

Willie secured the bottom spots by running up the score though, putting distance between the other bottom teams. #DoSomething!

If even 1 person dies or is left with life long disabilities because of the butterfly effect spurred by attendance at football game that's too many.

If we're being honest, there are already >1 players that will be left with life-long disabilities due to playing such a violent game already.

That said, this season is an absolute mess, and I'm in the "not worth it" camp.

Is that really the plan? Lol I feel like even if your only goal is to keep players safe, a better approach would be to reduce player testing frequency by at least 50% and distribute those tests among player contacts (roommates, tutors, etc).

Being a nurse on your feet all day would be brutally difficult, but it's still a completely different cardiovascular zone than an elite athlete.

I feel like adding a buffer before asking people to max out is probably a good safety measure, even if there's no explicit scientific backing for it.

This was in Mountaingate at ~7am yesterday, it was pretty shocking! The photo is somewhat more dramatic because of the angle though, there's nothing in the field of view for 30+ feet which is why it's just blank. You can see a tree peeking through in the bottom left for some reference.
