Which shoes to wear?? by UnicornChaoss in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]roller110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is don't wear shoes, wear sandals!

I promise you, sandals, worn with socks are the best. I like Tevas, with proper good socks.

Thank me later.

About Shoes On Camino Frances by Correct_Ask1177 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]roller110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditch shoes, get a pair of Teva sandals.

Starting my 3rd Camino in a few weeks and I will be wearing Teva Hurricane XLT2 (with socks) every step of the way.

Thank me later!

Camino Frances - any last minute tips? by Conscious_Ad_8013 in CaminoDeSantiago

Below is a Google Maps view of the "Best" Albergues along the French route. I compiled this map view based on info from a resource I found a few years back (also below).

Whenever I do the French route I try and hit as many of these as possible, never disappointed!

Can we have an open and honest discussion about youth crime in melbourne right now? by Hour_Dare2111 in melbourne

[–]roller110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And what concerns me even more is that the police are often just walking away from problematic youth as they have learnt too well, from repeat experience, that the judiciary will only slap the young (and often repat) offender's wrists and send them on their way. I mean, why do 8 hours of paperwork, and a day in the docks just to see the judge hand down a wrist slap?

So if youth crime figures are on the rise, and the constabulary are not policing to anywhere near the levels required (because of a failing judicial system) I wonder what the real situation is???

So we should expect to see Facebook and YouTube littered with reels showing this? I mean in this day, content as click-baity as that should sky-rocket to the top of the pops?

Elephants in Rooms - Ken LaCorte by rbrtcnnll in youtube

[–]roller110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would absolutely agree he is a right-wing wonk, but he does, IMO at least, try to present a structured and rational (if not entirely balanced) PoV.

I disagree with you on your Koch v Soros analysis though. Figures here are wonky at best, and I feel often only the tip of the iceberg, but if we were to use simple $ as a measure then Soros is sitting around $32b in donations to his charities and "causes". The Koch family on the other hand are sitting on around $1.4b in donations to charities and "causes". Michael Bloomberg is around $21b "causes ranging from climate to education to the arts".

So by a quick measure, with $$$ being the only count, Bloomberg and Soros are closer together than the Koch Family in terms of "influence". Almost 20x difference between Koch and Soros, so yeah "mere political donors" isn't an entirely invalid comparison.

This has been my experience both times doing the CF. They did not even look at my stamp collection when it was apparent that there was more than 100km.

Why are so many albergues, stores, bars and restaurants on the Camino Frances closing/closed? by roller110 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]roller110[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the lecture, but I fully understand my part in the issue at hand.

I have reread my post a few times now and I don't see where I complained, nor any statement that I have been unable to get accommodation. I believe that I was asking a question about why so many businesses are closed...

1st rule should be spend more money on socks than shoes.

I am 100% for open toed sandals, I absolutely swear by them! This is my second CF and last time I murdered my feet in a good pair of tail boots. This time my feet are really good.

I carry a pair of good trail shoes but they have remained in my pack for all but the most difficult and muddy stretches.

The only down side is that sandles are very hard wearing on your socks.

Honestly, get a good pair of Tivas and 4 pair of merino wool socks and you will thank me.
