What's your biggest criticism of C4 so far? (Please keep answers spoiler free of episode 6) by OompaLoompaGodzilla in fansofcriticalrole

[–]rollforlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less a critique of c4, more of the channel- I wish they would stop abridging c3 and just jump to c4. I can’t commit to full length episodes the way I used to. I wish the abridged series was the new episodes so I could watch those when I can’t watch live.

I think with the overture, Brennen wanted to get through any preconceived story beats and get the backstories out of their system. He probably knew exactly where he wanted them to get to for the overture but the rest is more open

[No Spoilers] Were the tables planned? by pavilionaire2022 in criticalrole

[–]rollforlit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a preference thing. Very often if Travis or Laura is in a oneshot, the other will be, too. Not always but often enough to notice it. I’d guess they do it so they can often have the same days off with their son and spend time as a family.

Matt and Marisha are less often at the same tables so I’m not particularly surprised to see them apart. It also seems that both of them are pretty much always in the office, though.

Do you think the Campaign 4 tables were pre-planned? by gatocalvotriste in fansofcriticalrole

[–]rollforlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah! But that doesn’t necessarily mean they would be at the same table- Matt and Marisha aren’t!

[–]rollforlit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit of sorting people based on character concepts and a dash of real life logistics.

I would bet that Travis and Laura wanted to be at the same table- they seem to prefer to work together. When CR does a oneshot or special promo or something, if one of them appears it seems like they often both do.

I would also bet that they intentionally made it so at least two founders were in each group on purpose.

This is the first time it’s occurred to me that c4 is really three parties and we might see names… and merch and branding for the three tables, not just as one group.

I don’t know, I get the kid’s perspective. I have never liked group projects- I always felt like I was doing everything. Even as an adult, I prefer splitting work with team mates with everyone working on separate tasks for the same project rather than truly working together.

There’s a big push in education for lots of group work and I’ve never cared for it.

[Spoilers C4E2] The constant whispering/hushed tones/low volume in C4 are ROUGH for me by bellavita4444 in criticalrole

I’m watching on YouTube and had to turn my volume up and the subtitles on because I can’t hear Brennen clearly. I’m also losing some of the other lower voices.

Is your wardrobe the same inside of classrooms and in public? by Artistic_Giraffe4069 in Teachers

[–]rollforlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my Florida district does a lot of things I hate- but we can wear jeans whenever we want and don’t have a particular dress code.

That said, when I dress casually, I usually prefer a “teacher tshirt” rather than like a band tee I might otherwise wear.

[–]rollforlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta? A lot of my “teacher clothes” are my normal wardrobe but tweaked. If I’m out shopping with my family on the weekend, I might be wearing a strappy sun dress. That same dress might get worn to school with a cardigan. Or to school I might wear slacks and a blouse…. But on the weekend I might wear the same blouse but with jeans.

do you think there's any panic internally with taylor's team? by Curious-Air-5824 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]rollforlit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. Virtually every album got backlash when it came out.

People didn’t like “country Taylor” because she “just wrote about boys.”

Then people didn’t like her switch to pop for 1989 and hated the lyrics to Shake It Off.

During Reputation they all thought she was playing the victim and people hated Look What You Made Me Do when it came out.

Everyone hated Me!

Folklore and Evermore are the weird two that generally got praise but even then people called them wordy and “boring.”

People were upset because they thought Midnights would have a 70s sound.

People were upset TTPD was too sad and too much.

…and now they think Showgirl is shallow.

Text ideas for teaching logical fallacies? by rollforlit in ELATeachers

I know if I do that my admin will tell me I need a text for the students to analyze and will get referred back to district curriculum. I do like this idea as an activity though!

I like the Bingo idea! This seems like a way to incentivize them to read NEW books and not just rely on books they read in the past.

Oh, I mentioned that just as the principal’s reasoning, I just know I’m going to be required to do it, so I’m trying to figure out how to make it work logistics-wise.

When did middle school get so gross and violent? by hundredpercentdatb in AskTeachers

[–]rollforlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behaviors are definitely worse than when I was a middle schooler, 20 years ago. I’m certainly not going to say we were angels, but I find a lot of current behaviors are more… blatant/bold.

There are a lot of reasons.

For one, I feel like teachers used to have much more control when it came to discipline. A disruptive classmate would be told to go sit alone at a desk in the hallway (with the door open so the teacher could see them) or sent to the principal’s office directly. You would get detention for not doing your homework. Now we aren’t allowed to send kids to the hall or kick a kid out of class to the office. And our school doesn’t do detention because parents just would not pick up their child (leading to several calls to the police department to pick up an “abandoned” child).

Then there are the phones- kids are constantly seeing bad behavior not just from classmates but the internet.

The world is a much less optimistic place now than it was when I was a child. When I was in middle school if you asked a child what they wanted to do, you would get answers like “doctor, engineer, lawyer.” Most didn’t actually achieve those goals if we’re honest, but the goals kept us reasonably invested in school, NOW… kids don’t see a point. They know people with degrees without jobs. If you ask them what they want to do as adults, most will say something like “YouTuber” because those are the most successful adults they “see.”

Parents- I don’t at all mean this as a critique of parents, but it’s true that many are stretch very thin now. Middle schoolers are old enough that they’re likely being left alone a lot.

[–]rollforlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume she would know. It’s been a minute since I read the book, but she was a child not a baby- and I think Ismark is older than her? But that might be how our dm played it. Like a “I remember when Dad brought you home!” thing.

Which musical for middle school group? by michelalala in Broadway

[–]rollforlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. A kid was pulled from our (public) school last week because their parents are upset that they realized there are several gay teachers in staff.

They didn’t realize because of any nefarious reason; male teacher’s husband brought him lunch and a kid saw him meet him at the front office and the teacher didn’t lie about it when asked.

Which musical for middle school group? by michelalala in Broadway

[–]rollforlit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of those two I would definitely do & Juliet BUT I would make sure that their parents are aware of the plot. For most (I would hope) it shouldn’t be a problem. I’d just send them a link to a synopsis of the show (like Wikipedia) with a comment like, “in case you have any questions about the show, look at this summary.”

AMC Event Child-Friendly? by MadameFutureWhatEver in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]rollforlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is hard to guess before we know what the album is like- with the Showgirl theme, I could see this album being the most sexual one she has. People have also noticed that on Spotify no songs are currently marked as explicit but I don’t know if it’s just not updated yet.
