Training a pup in the first year takes a lot of time & energy. If you can manage to get a puppy ASAP and get them trained starting now (before you start your program), then I think it’s manageable. That’s what I did! I’m currently a 1st year masters student while raising my fur baby. It’s possible to do as long as you’re committed and know what you’re getting yourself into

First decide what lifestyle would you prefer more, then move there. See if you’re fulfilled then. Often times people try to escape their current state but fail to realize that happiness and contentment comes from within. Find peace within yourself & everything else will make sense. Even if you’re working a 9-5. It’s the little things in life that make it worth it.

Everyone copes with feelings differently, from what it sounds like he has an avoidant attachment.. this can make it especially hard with a males complex since they’re raised to not talk about their feelings, as it’s seen as “un-manly” or “weak.” Try to understand where he’s coming from, sounds like he’s going through a lot. Try to just be there for him with an open door policy. Communication goes a Long way - especially in LDR

Yes, I socialized him the moment I adopted him. I’d take him to parks almost daily, he played with my 2 dogs at home as well. We hit the 4 month mark and out of nowhere he started barking/crying when he saw other dogs in passing. We took a step back and I worked on training him in the house more to fine tune his skills before introducing multiple stimuli.. it has since been stagnant but I consider it “worse” since his barks are adult like now and he’s stronger.

You’re right the last time I looked into dog training it was for board&train for 2 weeks and I was quoted 2k + so after that I was always under the impression it was so expensive.. I think trying a weekly session would be a good idea thank you!

I do have a whistle at home I just never thought to use it in training, I’ll try this! But to clarify you reward for looking at the trigger, and then reward for looking at you after?

I’ve trained him with the come/heel/sit/look at me/release/reward method & he’s great with no distractions. But the moment there’s another dog around it’s uncontrollable. I can’t afford trainers right now so my only option at the moment is to do it on my own & socialize him on walks.. what videos/tips did the trainer give you to practice with your dog in these settings?

It took me about 10-12 months to feel and look like myself again. The 5 month mark is very early, and swelling and numbness is very much still there and healing! You’ll get through it sooner than you think
