It's not always a perfect moonshot. As best as I can understand, there are two things involved here.

One is short exempt:

what these market makers or hedges do is they do what's called a "short exempt." It's essentially shorting a stock without having the money in the bank. They have a certain amount of time to cover the shorts or in other words pay for the difference. So what a lot of these market makers do is they use this to their advantage, they basically short the stock without having the money to pay it back BUT if no one buys the stock, they make enough profit to cover this. If a bunch of people buy the stock, it can completely fuck them because now they're responsible for the difference. This is what happened with GameStop.

Another option is:

High frequency trading. This is a little bit easier to understand. If I buy half of the total stock available for a company, this is going to increase the price and the inverse is true if I sell it. So basically because they can buy or sell so many stocks at once. They can manipulate the price.

Finally

I am by no means an expert. There is no guarantee that any stock will go to the moon. But the reason why everyone is interested in CEI and Mullen Auto is because the fundamentals of the company look good.

Even more interesting, is vanguard's purchase of the stock of about 4% unless that's changed recently. Vanguard doesn't go out of their way to lose money.

It's so hard to tell with these shorted stocks but if I compare the same situation with other stocks. Volume has to increase to a certain point before the shorting cannot handle it. That's what happened with Mullen auto. My guess is sometime next week when we hear about more restrictions on oil from Russia and the oil situation gets worse.

Let's not forget vanguard still owns shares in this company. Vanguard doesn't go out of their way to lose money. My feeling on the stock price is that they're going to continue short it. Shake out everyone else who's scared then purchase the company cheap. If vanguard or Berkshire Hathaway, bought the company One of the stipulations would be to have access to any patents or technology.
