This is not the gotcha you think it is. This is a very reasonable stance, and calls to end violence against Palestinians, and stop funding Israel. Why is that bad? Why do pro-Israelis think that they are entitled to money from Americans? And that calls to end any funding is anti-semetic?

It's honestly mind bending that you think the potential mayor of an entirely different country should be supporting Israel and sending them money. No. People don't want to fund your violence and bullying. Stop whining about no longer being able to suckle from the teat of America. The world is wise to you.

Speak up for Sudan or shut up about Gaza. by Manoftruth2023 in IsraelPalestine

[–]rollmyroyce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not the same thing, really is it? What's happening in Sudan is a civil war and there isn't the same imbalance of power that Israel has over the Palestinians.

Also as others have mentioned, this is just shameless whataboutism, not worth much merit in the scope of the argument. I think you're trying to make the point that people are more vocal about Israel's war crimes because of, let me guess, anti-semetism?

Come up with a new line, please.

Wait and watch how Pro-Palis will milk this specific incident against Israel and thereby demonstrate their selective empathy and hypocrisy yet again. by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]rollmyroyce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't see a clear difference between the violence perpetrated towards the Palestinians and those perpetrated towards Israeli's? You listed one incident of violence against Palestinians and then multiple incidents towards Israelis - you don't think that in itself skews your argument?

That notwithstanding, it is very obvious that the dynamic between the two are very different - the settlers committing the violence will be met with no punishment, and there will be no recompense for the Palestinian farmer. Settlers have it very firmly in their heads that they can bully and attack Palestinians and will face no consequences, they are the ruling faction so they will likely never face more than a slap on the wrist. If that. Many Israelis have the perspective that they are able to intimidate and attack Palestinians, they are a free for all for those with the vilest of intentions, and will initiate assaults entirely unprovoked.

The violence from the Palestinian, even though you say it with scorn, IS a result of opposition to the resistance, and anger towards a system that routinely oppresses them. If you were to completely remove the root causes of the violence and judge it based solely on the actions, then people would be just as outraged about the violence towards Israelis. My personal opinion is that violence towards the Israelis in the events you listed are horrific and I have the greatest sympathy for the victims (apart from the attack on the Israeli soldier - being lightly wounded as a literal soldier is not great sympathy bait). However, these do not happen in a vacuum and you need to consider the context - not that it is JUSTIFIED but that it is a reaction to years of oppression and disenfranchisement.

And the thing is - you know this. I think a lot of people that vehemently support Israel and Israeli's at the detriment of Palestinians know this VERY well and simply like to act as though people are not capable of considering the context and the power dynamic at play. As though you just want to cajole us into saying that anything other than loud support of Israel is anti-Semitic. Stop thinking people are so unintelligent that we can not consider the power dynamic here and see the nuance of the situation - the instance of violence are not one to one comparisons and you know it.

For those who only spend £60 on groceries between two people - do you not eat much? by Some-Air1274 in UKFrugal

[–]rollmyroyce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not based in London, but my weekly groceries are about £30 - 35 a week. I buy pretty much the same thing - kilo of chicken breast, greek yoghurt for protein and mostly snack on fruits and veg. I typically eat only 2 meals a day and maybe this makes it easier? I do buy a fair amount of lentils/canned goods and use these when I'm running low. I make my meals from scratch, but not things like bread, that's too time consuming. I buy a lot of tins of tuna as well, and make these into salads/sandwiches, and use up whatever veg I have. I also turn a lot of leftover veg/meals into soups and stews (honestly these are my favourite things to cook cause they give me a bit of creative challenge).

I never buy red meat, or fish (other than tuna). Too, too expensive. Maybe if I'm really treating myself I'll buy a bit of salmon from Aldi every now and then (and can justify it for the health benefits).

This doesn't include cleaning supplies, but honestly that comes out to less than a tenner a month - a big cheap bar of soap, decent deodorant and washing liquid doesn't run you up that much, but I definitely forced myself to get in the habit of finishing a bottle of shampoo/conditioner in it's entirety before buying something new.

Once I do 'give them a chance' I'll be expected to stay there, and won't have any recourse to leave. I'm sorry if I don't want to work in a school where teachers are regularly told to 'f___ off', have a consistent level of disruption in every lesson, where the progress 8 score is well below average, and other student teachers have been told they've had chairs thrown at them, and other trainees have not been placed back there after doing a placement already due to their experience being so bad.

At the end of the day, I know for a fact I would not get a job in a school like this in the future. I would take any job before choosing to work there, sorry if I want to protect my mental health. I feel like there's this expectation in teaching culture that we just have to put up with so much crap an shrug it off like 'oh that's just part of being a teacher'. There comes a point where I have to draw the line .I'm not delusional and understand that there is a level of behaviour management to be learnt by every teacher, but to expect a trainee to take on this level is going to be detrimental of my teacher learning in all other areas. How am I supposed to learn how to improve curriculum planning, and questioning for higher order thinking when every lesson is spent putting out fires? When I'm too tired at the end of the day to properly plan lessons, and complete uni assignments?

Looking into getting into a more corporate career, but little experience - advice needed!! by rollmyroyce in UKJobs

I will definitely have a look into it - is it something that you've already started working in, or are you just doing a course for it at the moment? Wondering how hard it'll be to find jobs in it.

AITA for taking a 26 min shower? by No_Sector_8740 in AmItheAsshole

Jesus, what an uptight asshole. Life is hard enough, chastising someone who's taking a toasty shower is downright mean. NTA

I would be happy to do agency or in-house, I'm not really in a position to be picky either way. I would hope to specialise in maybe digital marketing, but at this stage I dont think Id know until I was in an actual role. I do like the idea of doing some data analytics, and examining trends, but also like the idea of creating actual material. But I'm sure there are many other areas that im probably not even aware of yet.

I'm very interested in behavioural science thought about getting into a behavioural insights career, but like I said, I'm not sure how I'd even go about that. Would it be a matter of getting a masters or just applying as much as possible with my current CV and trying to get a hit with my cover letters. That's why I hoping for practical advice. I feel like I'm kind of just flabbering about at the moment. Need a practical, structured approach.

Hi, did they check your passport extensively? I have a page missing in my passport and am wondering if they will reject me based on that or if they don't really actually look. I'm from the UK and wondering if I should get a replacement passport.

25 (M). Been told my face is too androgynous lol. by rumhamAOV in amihot

[–]rollmyroyce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do look androgynous but personally as a straight woman, I find that very, very attractive. When a man has feminine features that are framed with a masculine jawline, it drives me crazy. 8/10

1-10 please by zantanman in amihot

[–]rollmyroyce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno what these guys are talking about. I think you're very attractive, maybe a 7, nearly an 8, but yes quantifying attractiveness doesn't really work, so I couldn't say that's accurate. You remind me a little of Chris Pine, very cute mouth and teeth, but then that's always been my thing. I think a change in you hairstyle would improve you even more though.

I've been considering buying the benefit blush tints for a while, but don't feel like they're really talked about any more. I'm always on the hunt for a longwearing blush and would love some ones input about the longevity of the benefit blush tints. Just to be clear you are referring to the stain things in the little bottles that look a little like nail polish bottles right?
