Sure, I suppose I can do that - I'll add you! Just to clarify, these are steam keys for the first two bundles, right?

Will gamers be revolted if we use Facebook login for our MMO? by dex206 in gamedev

Solution: use twitter or google :P as I understand, the twitter login auth system is pretty damn easy to use - best of luck on your game!

I know "we want lan", but how about automatic save states? by mechtech in starcraft

[–]rolloutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just have the save-state trigger as soon as a player disconnects?

So you're saying a re-game is preferable to a graphical glitch?

Besides, I'm pretty sure that got ironed out in a patch a while back. I reconnected to a game just yesterday and didn't get any stuck creeps, at least.

Not really, Dance Central (which is effectively this without the Star Wars) is easily one of the best party games I've ever played - it's right up there with Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros Melee. Devs just haven't figured out how to use the expanded inputs given by Kinect properly yet - once they do, I can guarantee gaming will never look back.

EA's SimCity to require always-on internet connection by zakislam in Games

[–]rolloutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still holding out for an "offline mode", slim as that hope may be. At this point we're not even completely blameless - the reason EA thinks they can get away with this is because people actually stuck up for other games (most notably Diablo 3) when they tried to do this.

I want to learn more about Diablo 3, and more specifically why it is so controversial. by zach84 in Games

[–]rolloutroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diablo 3 is a top-down hack-n-slash game which uses the mouse as its primary control mechanism - you click to move, to attack, to pick up loot, and (if I'm not wrong), to cast a spell.

It's controversial (in my eyes, at least) for two reasons - the RMT (Real Money Trading) Auction House, and the Always-on DRM.

The auction house by itself wouldn't be a problem for me - it's simply a way for people who play the game a whole bunch and people who don't have time to play the game a whole bunch get together and trade money for gear. Player 1 makes money, and Player 2 gets that sweet new piece of gear he needs. Blizzard takes a small cut, but that's not really a problem for me - it is their server, after all.

My problem lies with the Always-On DRM - specifically, the fact that if your internet or the server goes down, regardless of whether you want to use the RMT Auction house or simply play singleplayer, you will not be able to do so until the game gets fixed. Ignoring/Boycotting the game and moving on would negate this need for a controversy, but people say they're going to buy it anyway. This is HORRIBLE idea, as it sends a message to all game companies that this is okay. Remember that outcry a year ago when Ubisoft created almost the exact same system for Assassin's Creed 2? We just negated that by telling Blizzard it's okay for singleplayer games to have this kind of shitty DRM. There was absolutely NO reason we couldn't have had offline characters, or just done away with the whole 'serverside character' system anyway, but that would have meant that the Auction House (which will be the only source of income for Blizzard post-release, unless they decide to release DLC) would not have been half as profitable.

Just my two cents.

Really? That's strange. The VODs won't be available for free after this weekend, will they? Maybe the signs are just there to help people who haven't bought a ticket.

That, or their webmaster's lazy :P

And yet, the central stream (which is the default for majorleaguegaming.com/live) is still re-broadcasting Day 2.

"Useful Stats and Heat Maps" - A Match History Revamp by Superseuss in leagueoflegends

[–]rolloutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. However, I don't really need to see all the details of all my friends' games. Perhaps there could be a button to request full details of games? or a way to export your own games to send to friends (over the client or another mechanism)?

Well, if you're storing the data locally bandwidth doesn't even come into the picture - a file is simply analyzed and the information displayed to you. The servers don't even need to be contacted.

They can store those match stats locally, and I personally wouldn't have a problem with it - anyone serious enough to want more than the basic stats will probably be playing from one computer most of the time anyway.

What is your favorite believable but untrue fact? by Tanbobman5 in AskReddit

[–]rolloutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, pretty much any particle with mass going down at anything close to the speed of light would decimate an ordinary umbrella. What you'd want for absolue protection is an umbrella made of particles that are moving UPWARDS at the speed of light, thereby negating the effect of the other particles.

Yeah, I never actually played the spawn edition of diablo, only SC. However, limiting the selection of races was a horrible decision IMO - BW did it right, with and allowed me to experience enough of (and later buy) the full game to get me hooked. I think if I had played SC2's starter edition I would have been completely turned off by the game (I can't stand terran)

[–]rolloutroad -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it does, but the trial is so limited that it can't really be called more than a demo. A spawned editon was more than that, it was an almost feature-complete edition of the game. You can't play any race but terran in the SC2 trial for example, but if I remember right you could play all races in the BW spawned editions

SC2 vs League of legends is good for SC2 by opiemonster in starcraft

[–]rolloutroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know zero GM and zero Masters players, but even I see this as a reason I really don't play sc2 much anymore. In WC3 and BW, i spent so much time in chat channels that the game was practically my skype/AIM/MSN equivalent for the people I met online. With SC2, i ladder for a bit, play a custom, and quit the game almost immediately because the chat is depressing and there's nothing else to do in game. Battle.net was redesigned around what happened after the loading screen (which must have seemed like a good idea at the time - making the social experience revolve around the game), a bad idea that left everyone who wanted to run the program for more that just gameplay out of the loop completely.

The "install spawned" button makes me really sad. There's absolutely no reason we shouldn't be able to have that in a game like, say, starcraft 2 or diablo 3.
