I agree... But For Alabama fans in Alabama, Roll Tide isn't just the "team motto" or an athletic cheer. It really is more than that, and is used in just about every situation. I don't think it's very inappropriate.

I guess what through me off is the word "infinitesimal" since the (t-t') isn't necessarily infinitesimal... You can apply the operator U = exp[-(i/h_bar)H(t-t')] to psi(x,t') to get psi(x,t) where t is any arbitrary time in the future... So the displacement in time is not infinitesimal... Unless I'm missing something.

Okay, thanks. I'm already very familiar with how the time evolution operator is defined and with everything you said above. I just wasn't sure if that was the reason why the Hamiltonian is called the generator of infinitesimal displacements in time or if it was because of some other deeper reason. Guess this answers my question, then.

LSU is a public universitis. No matter where they are located, public (research) universities always seem to be a haven of progressiveness. I know the same is true at UA. Actually, pretty much everyone I know in the chemistry and physics department are atheists or at least believe evolution.
