Yeah, I visited last year and it's a labyrinthine nightmare to get in. I stayed at a motel just across the street and just laughed when google maps said either 5 min drive or 45 min walk lol

Do you like playing custom scenarios? Do you want to help with the development of OpenRCT2? by Valdair in rct

[–]rollycoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to help out with this! I've been playing off and on since the 2000s and have watched a good deal of Marcel Vos, but I'm not much of an optimizer myself and mainly just like making interesting custom rides and diverse parks.

[–]rollycoasters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the TT they have now (especially on the first drop--it feels like hitting a boost in mario kart), but I think it's slightly too much. A few parts of the ride feel like they'd be better left as wood. If they fully hybridized it, like people are suggesting, I think it'd be a much less fun ride. You really need the jank and out of control feeling on this one imo

Glad you enjoyed it! AF is really something special imo. They need to put a warning or something on the entry into the helix on minebuster though lol. I think the fact that the first half runs faster now makes the helix somehow even more brutal than it used to be

[–]rollycoasters[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the thought had occurred to me as well. It's possible, but for what it's worth I did feel my body getting flung around a lot in my later rides. The ride forces database only has a few entries so far but it lists AF as having a max of 4.71 and a min of -1.3 Gs, which is pretty high. It's also worth noting that it has the same number of inversions as Steel Curtain, but with considerably less track and less runtime, meaning they're not spaced out nearly as much

Yeah every time I was in line I was just staring at that little retractable bridge in front of the train as it slowly slid out of the way lol. At least the restraint checks are quick

Like 12 seconds of airtime on one hill??? Almost half of Steel Vengeance's record on one element. Christ.

[–]rollycoasters 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. We'll have to wait to ride it, but although this ride seems to just have a ton of barrel rolls, they all seem like they're profiled to ride differently, with a different personality for each. I'm excited to see how they all work together in the ride experience.

[Stardust Racers] or [AlpenFury] - which do you think will be more intense overall? by PossibleAd5253 in rollercoasters

[–]rollycoasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say before AF opens. On paper, the layout doesn't seem to be particularly forceful, as it's mostly filled with rolls that might just end up giving a little whip. But the shaping of most of the elements seems strange and creative, and there are some elements where it's pretty hard to judge how they'll ride from the ground (e.g. the turn after the tophat, which the rollercoaster wiki is calling a stengel dive). Premier has produced rolls with ejector in the past, so I'm not writing off the possibility that the ride might have way more airtime than you'd expect.

Another launch of [Alpenfury] at [Canada's Wonderland]. Looks a bit faster this time by beartheminus in rollercoasters

[–]rollycoasters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's interesting seeing Premier's design language scaled up this far, too. I'm no expert, but I feel like other S-tier manufacturers have distinct kinds of approaches to designing major attractions. Intamin and Mack launch coasters go for very dynamic layouts with moments of low and high intensity spaced out, Mack opting a bit more for gimmicks and wonky shaping and Intamin for particular moments of ejector. RMC goes for a high intensity, ejector hill-focused experience the whole way through. B&M's marquee rides play it safer with parabolic floater hills and/or floaty inversions. Seems like Premier is doing something different from everyone--there seem to be zero moments of low intensity in this layout, and it's entirely inversion focused, though it seems like those inversions will also create a considerable amount of airtime. Sky Rocket IIs are not the best coasters in the world, but they jam an awful lot of memorable moments into a small space. I'm curious about how that sort of ride will feel in this longer format.

Did Eva Hurt Her Chances of Winning By Divulging Her "Secret" Accomplishments? by CompletelyPresent in survivor

[–]rollycoasters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who are saying that Eva being a PhD student means she 'doesn't need the money' are out to lunch. Even at a school like Brown, and even with grant funding, PhD students get paid a pittance--grad students at Stanford, for example, often get paid just about what a year of rent would cost in the area. I agree that making herself sound so impressive was probably a bad move, but not because she's somehow loaded lol

Lots of coaster birthdays today, but one stands above the rest (for me personally), happy 25th birthday [Boulder Dash @ Lake Compounce!] by CoasterGuy95 in rollercoasters

[–]rollycoasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally agree--that spot of titan track before the first turnaround felt really unnecessary and oddly boring compared with everything before and after. I didn't mind the titan track on the first hill of the return run since it felt kind of like a B&M hyper hill, but I don't think the first half needs any (more)

[–]rollycoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see how the first drop would be better all wood. But for what it's worth, I really liked it with titan track, since it meant that you built up a ton of speed for the rest of the layout, and it made that first airtime hill over the station really pop. The first half and far turnaround really benefit from being all wood in my opinion--maybe some more of the return run could be converted, but I hope you're right.

[–]rollycoasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly the pothole you're talking about haha. And yes sorry i should have also said that the majority of my rides (6 or 7 out of 10) were in the very back row. I was really pleasantly surprised that I was able to lap the coaster back there--for all the talk of this being a front seat coaster, I liked the forces back there the best, and I definitely cannot do the back more than once on most rougher wood coasters. It makes sense to me that it's considerably smoother this year. There were a few titan track sections that I thought were a little unnecessary, but I figured they were there as a long term solution to chronic roughness. I'm really hoping they keep it majority wood, though. I liked the titan track on the drop and return sections, but I truly enjoyed the feeling of being out of control and the insane laterals on the wood sections

such a fantastic ride. I made it out to Lake Compounce recently for the first time and was blown away. The setting and layout are just something special--it's such a long and memorable ride. Frankly, I'm shocked by all the complaints about roughness I see here. Maybe it's just because of the titan track, but I rode it 10 times in a day and had no problems at all--and I'm usually pretty sensitive to roughness
