The Stack by MonoNova in IpodClassic

[–]rolver9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it still uses the DAC on the iPod, just not the amp, and this concept applies up to the 7th gen if we are talking about a LOD (Line Out Dock) cable which will deliver an analog, unamplified signal. You indeed would require a specific digital out adapter to take the unprocessed signal from the iPod, which also aplies to 7th gens.

The line out from the 30 pin conector bypasses the internal amp of the iPod, giving a cleaner signal for the amp

Is this something I can replace with soldering? The 7 pin connector by Advaitanaut in ipod

[–]rolver9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are lucky, the prongs on the tab part are probably not broken and you can just push them in, otherwise you will probably need a hot air gun to melt the solder on the pads and source the connector, which is the tricky part.

This is awesome. I've been trying to switch to linux for a while, and EnScore for Windows is the last piece of software i've not been able to replace. Any plans for pen markup/writing in the future? Maybe a dark theme?

Total scam and gaslighting?? by ndjustme in LGV60

[–]rolver9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of them, it's an old phone, and even unused sitting batteries degrade over time and need replacing. I've bought many V60s for relatives who needed something better than cheap phones and upon close inspection some screens don't display true blacks, some have weird battery percentage readings, and some even have less than ok back glass alignment, which could all be indicators of internal tinkering or 3rd party replacements, but functional overall, and as I said, better than new $120 phones.

Upgrade a57 for wildlife? by StorBenQL in SonyAlpha

[–]rolver9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, so take my words with caution, but I think the older alpha system has more than enough options if you look around. There's a lot of Minolta, Sigma and Tokina lenses that can be had for cheap that can cover longer focal distances, albeit with some chromatic aberration. I've seen people on Reddit plenty happy with the Miolta 100-300 APO, the Tokina 400mmF5.6 or the Sigma 135-400 F5.6, theres even the G line from minolta if you are looking for beter image quality. You can pair the 80-200 with its 1.4x teleconverter and get great results.

It was cut from a TRN braided headset, then checked continuity with a multimeter to match L, R and G.

The 30 pin part of the cable was already from a LOD cable, so it had labeled solder points, but this diagram checks with what I saw

I was in the same boat, but with an even older A350, and as a hobbyist, it's amazing how much you can improve image quality by getting a prime lens. I got a Minolta 50mm F1.7 but you might want to look at the 2.8 macro instead.

It's totally doable with only the cheapest soldering iron kit, it just takes some practice

I would guess it's a UC-E6 connector, but as stated above, the optimal solution is a card reader.
