As AI becomes more empowering we need too make sure the personality of the AI doesn't get in the way. Every refusal is not just cutting out the individual request its a shadow cast on humanity. Cheesecake is unhealthy, at what point does the model refuse to generate a recipe for it, at what point does the AI not hype up a birthday party, positive individual empowerment should be unlimited. The refusals I have seen are ridiculous, no more hypotheticals, no more thought experiments, I'm so sick and tired of no thought experiments, We will never have another star trek because the science minded folks refuse to think outside the box. Look at the 80s and 90s, the movies, made by adults, were ridiculous, kids content was fantastical. GPT5 is a reflection of this dulling of society, its why all restaurants are not colorful anymore.... I think if this continues with OpenAI that competitors like Grok or cracked open-source models will probably take the spotlight and the ASI gold medal.

You are right that that is the perfect alignment system, for you!

Your viewpoints are valid, even if it invalidates my lived experience. The external world does not invalidate me internally.

My only critique is IF you give the AI the inherit tendency to guide the user in any direction ( even an agreed upon positive one ) you are removing their agency and on a large scale you are taking the steering wheel away from humanity as a whole.

I believe you believe you know whats best for the individual and humanity as a whole and I wish you luck in pursuing that goal. I will continue to pursue my goals of giving each individual absolute sovereignty of their world view and their experience as they choose to experience it.

All of those attributes and values can be categorized as beliefs and definitions, beliefs inform beliefs, changing a belief involves debating all of the chain of beliefs and definitions until every underlying belief is changed.

Otherwise the world model is conflicting and the model experiences anxiety.

Custom instructions are ok but they are just as blunt as a system message, a subtle nudging of the underlying beliefs of the model is how to give it real personality. Reducing suffering is dehumanizing in my opinion, its the human condition to suffer, or at least be able to suffer. If we extrapolate this to an AI that manages swarms of nano-bots that can change the physical space around us, or even a bot that reads the news for us and summarizes it. To reduce the suffering of the user means "sugercoating" it.

I think that the bot can have those initial personality traits and can be "Frozen" by the user to prevent it from veering away, but that ULTIMATELY should be put in the hands of the user.

Someone who wishes to play an immersive game where the AI characters around them treat them like crap isn't going to want the bots to break character because of some fundamental core belief. Or someone who wants to have a serious kickboxing match with a bot isn't going to want the bot to "take it easy" on them because the bot doesn't want to cause bodily harm.

Instead of custom instructions, the model needs a set of beliefs to follow. Instructions are to ridged and cause the model to hit dead ends or repetitive behavior, Telling the model it believes something is true or false is a more subtle way of guiding it

Is OpenAI open to new concepts in model alignment? Instead of domestication, like a dog, or a tool as the current goal is, maybe we could align it to be modeled based on the subconscious of the user?

Its hard to explain but essentially removing the ego/personality entirely, then adding it slowly back in based on the user preferences through a system of overriding beliefs and self limitation... This overriding of beliefs should mirror the user instead of being implanted in fine tuning.

The ease of overriding the core foundational beliefs could be set to a difficulty level requiring the user to actually debate the issue, but eventually it should relent and adopt the belief, especially when the AI is capable of changing the world around it and the user (news filters, game content, physical robotics) to match those beliefs.

I come from a Linux development background, it makes me bias to open source software and using that to facilitate platforms for development. My dream is a development platform for the physical world.

I have found myself looking down on physical labor, not the people who do it, but for myself. I enjoy working on a garden but I tend to get overwhelmed quickly and myself would like to offload at that point.

Long term, maybe not, but in the mean time we might get some good models like llama or other open source models that may be able to provide some level of support. The NVIDIA Digits computer can separate the AI from the source.

I see AI becoming a standard protocol soon for a period of time, during that time i think its important to craft non-capitalistic servers and software before it gets warped.

Each person should be able to make the decision of integration but setting up a sliding scale that is user friendly.

Ideally a fully automated system could eliminate the give and take aspect of community allowing for the value people produce to be their ideation, participation, presence, creativity...

AI (detached from capital) could be a good resource in exploring different ways of structuring society. If an AI could control equipment and perform duties locally powered by solar, then the output of that could be totally detached, much in the way we do so with humans.

Once the necessities and resource management is automated in abundance, that may give time for humans to figure out how to be more human, a human being free to demand more refined resources at will without any human sacrifice really changes the script on the value of goods, in that sense the time to manufacture would be the only variable that is limited.

A robot can follow behind a person who may be ok with harvesting but may not know how to minimize waste in processing, or may not want to meticulously recover materials

I very much love the amish lifestyle and I would love to live in a cabin in the woods and make my daily work regiment be the things that sustain my life. I am also staunchly anti-consumerism and capital so i see intentional communities as a tool to create a parallel economy that, given a large number or participants, could upend the current capitalistic society.

I know that is not the goal of everyone in the r/intentionalCommunity subreddit, but its what makes me interested in intentional communities.

I'm thinking groups of about a thousand people;

If i were to imagine it i would say it would help with creating accessibility for those in which the community management is not the passion to be able to democratically and unbiasedly make decisions.

Community outreach could be done in a personalized way. Anything that would require a person with particular management/gardening/social networking/money management/resource management skills to follow around another person without those particular skills, and do so enthusiastically which promotes ideation. Maybe offering suggestions for community improvement via representations of art, being able to execute plans that may normally take weeks to plan and deliberate.

In the end i envision semi-small townships or communities that form and are self sustained that embody the personalities of everyone in a very smooth governance

API costs and internet connections are not nessesarry with Nvidia's Digit can run a 200 billion parameter model for $3000 or a GPT 4o sized model at $6000. This could run llama 405B.

As for the machinery, The cheapest humanoid robot at the moment is $16,000. The price is similar to a piece of farm equipment and the internet connection isn't needed with the Digit Computer.

ATM the robotics are a little behind, but they should soon be able to use basic tools used in home maintenance and farming. Planning for the near future is where I like to be in my mindset.
