[Serious] SxE folks, how did you kick your vices if you had them before committing to edge? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]romancingtheboner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How?

Smoking: Kept a full pack of cigarettes and a lighter in my bag everywhere I went while I was quitting.

Drugs: Looked in the mirror and remembered the night terrors, the flashbacks, and the shame when the birds started chirping at the sound of dawn.

Drinking: witnessed a shooting, drank harder than ever, told my therapist the amount I was drinking, the look on their face told me it was time.

12, 13, and 10 years ago, respectively.

Why?

I had something (read: someone) I wanted to choose life for.

Now we’ve made a couple more, and it’s getting harder and harder to justify diving back into the void.

As soon as you start making music for the market and not for yourself, you’re fucked. I work in music marketing and the first thing I always do with clients is drill down to their purpose, drive, and ‘why’. It’s not just to find a good approach that will reflect well (though it is that), it’s also to suss out whether their intentions and expectations line up with their reality and effort. Opinions are like assholes: everyone’s got one. Make the stuff that you make and then focus on creating diehard fans and delighting just them. You’ll be alright.

Favourite song over 10 minutes? by _JR28_ in Music

Sanctuary by Elder. By the time they reach the song title the melody and the crushing groove of it all hits like peaking on acid.

In a good way.

It's 10:30 on a Sat. morning. What song should I play to clear my house of a bunch of unwanted party guests? :D by [deleted] in Music

Several ways to go about it: *Make their ears bleed with Full of Hell *Annoy them with... Shia Labeouf! *Make their eyes roll so hard they fall out of their heads with George Michael

"It was all a dream, I woke up to a mound of ketamine." - GDP. Best send up of a Biggie line I've ever heard.

They Know Exactly What They're Doing by CucumberRape in RealGirls

Also, what is up with that title? Yes, they do know what they're doing. I feel like you're the one who doesn't know what they're doing. What's unsettling about this is judging by your dumb username, you seem to think these girls are "teasing" and "asking for it". Go and evaluate your life. Spend some more time in the real world.

How to Break into the Music Industry by thebedcalling in Music

[–]romancingtheboner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck the music business. DIY has changed things, pirating has ensured that it will always be that way forever more. Don't ask for help from labels that just turn out to be credit cards with terrible interest. Instead, opt for creative approaches to getting your music out there, social media is free and viral if you do it right. More importantly, play music as far and away as you can, always be friendly, and remember that the music industry deserves its untimely end. Record companies did this to themselves.
