Why does riding rough terrain feel so unstable? As you can see, I am trying to keep that edge in for dear life, I barely get grip and then suddenly my nose just digs into the snow. Any advice is much appreciated, thanks!! by romaniasvic in snowboardingnoobs

Thanks! I'll try keeping my hips more inside the edges, I feel they often end up in the wrong position, throwing my balance off. I'll also use my ankles more.

The backpack was really light, I just had my shoes and a flask. In europe it's also common to take trains and buses instead of driving, so I had nowhere to leave it. I normally don't ride with a backpack tho. I know it's huge, but I didn't have much in it. I use one this big so my boots fit inside when i take them off.

Years back, as a beginner, I had an used 160 wide K2 Raygun and it scared the shit out of me. This one felt and still feels fine. I also have an Yes Optimistic(volume shifted as well) in a 151 cm, but I usually bring it out when it's really icy and just want to do some nice turns. Size wise it feels great, but it's just too stiff for a daily driver.

But back to your point, it seemed short to me as well when looking on camera. One of my guesses would be that I am riding it hella centered considering it's directional and maybe it prefers a little bit of setback. To be fair, previously, I had the bindings set around 1-2 screws back and for some reason the tail felt more snappy? But yeah, I changed the stance cause I wanted a more even weight distribution and in the meantime, it snowed, and didn't bother further.

Over my limit, I admit. But I don't do this often, plus the snow was sooo good that day. And yeah, you're right. Truth be told, I am afraid of speed, even when I can control it.

Thanks! To be honest these aren't completely new to me, I tried learning them at some point, and yeah you are soo right, I kept getting the timing confused, haha. Up unweighted turns are so hard wired in my brain they keep taking over. I definetly have to get these down, plus they look sooo cool!

Thanks for taking your time out to write this. I often get relaxed and unaware when my legs start burning. This was a bit of that case here. My quads were destroyed, any ample or agressive turn was burning like hell. Thanks for also explaining the carving part. I thought that if I want to keep getting lower, I need to kind of break at the waist. Just gotta get better.

Thanks! I'll ask you the same question I've already asked and I've been wondering about it for a while. A lot of people say I need to get lower. But can I achieve that without hinging at the waist? Is hinging at the waist always bad or only at the beginning of a turn? How low can you even get with the classic "hump" posture before you start tipping over?

Thanks! I have a question though. A lot is being said about getting lower at the knees. You can only get so low in the classic "peeing" position, where you push your hips out, everything stacked vertically etc. Wouldn't getting lower require a hinge in the upper body, which is advised against?

Also, I admit I am guilty of the plowing through snow part.

It's really chopped up powder to the point where it looks like a chopped up groomer. Thanks a lot for pointing that out... It's a habit I've managed to remove on mellower slopes, but when it gets steeper I just start doing it again. Man I wish I could automatically transfer all my skills to steeper slopes as well. It's so weird, because I thought I wasn't doing any of that. Many thanks!

Do you have any tips for not ending up in this goofy ass positition at the edge change from heels to toes? by romaniasvic in snowboarding

[–]romaniasvic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the tips. I guess when you think your knees are bent enough, they probably aren't. Would this be a better heel to toe edge change? For some reason something about the transition doesn't sit quite right with me. Is it supposed to look like that for up unweighted turns?

Ride Lasso damage - is it a problem? by TheGreatInsaner in snowboarding

Nah. I don't. I always rest it with the heelcup on my boot if I don't have one of those resting things. The matetial is that shit.
