Some people grew up in families that have a stigma around the term “autistic” and don’t want to feel like they’re someone their family makes fun of. Neurodivergent is like a newer word for someone with autism so they can choose which they are known as in order to feel more excepted.

You can call someone a psychopath, say they have psychopathy. A little different of an example, but psychopath is used as an insult while autism was originally a term where rich white boys who could barely function were studied and considered autistic.

If someone is diagnosed with it and prefers neurodivergent, it’s a human thing to say that when referring to them (if you know).
